3 inches:(
Today I spent some time working on one of the benches that were purchased for work stations inside the bus. They are beautiful and I think they will eventually work out great. One in particular needs to fit the AR sandbox which is its own beast. So in order to fit all that goes with the sandbox, the bench needs to be shorter, in my mind, not a problem I can make quick work of this!
So with a great plan and mostly the right tools, I went to work. A cutoff wheel or two later and I had the legs shorter. Then I learned that I needed an extra adjustment hole, over to the drill press, Awesome! Back to fitting the legs back in the holes and found they were still too long. More time with a cutoff wheel on all four legs then customizing the sleeve that now did not match up with the original hole... on and on but at some point in the afternoon I was finally able to put the bench all back together.
Sitting back, I was able to admire the work that I had done, which didn't last for too long. After remeasuring the height I found that I had achieved three of the original four and a half inches I was hoping for. Frustrated, I thought to myself, I spent all day on three inches? After evaluating the situation, I couldn't feel too bad, as I had suspected that there were some structural components that ultimately would limit my work. In the end, I had to be thankful that I made some progress and for now, I will take it!
Sometimes in our work, despite our greatest efforts and energy, progress can come slower and in smaller increments than we want. I was reminded this week that there are areas of growth that we are seeing around our school. The report from Rhonda on our kids welcoming our new student with open arms comes to mind, and I am appreciative of this positive sign of kindness. Seeing our kids actively engaged in service for The Ronald McDonald Charities was also a bright spot. I think each of us could come up with some other example of progress whether it be academically or culturally that though small sometimes, we are still moving in the right direction.
Sometimes we want immediate results and expect that especially when our effort and energies are matching our goal of the growth we want to see. I encourage us all to appreciate these small nuggets of growth. Our work is difficult, and your energies are not wasted, no matter how small your work is paying off. You do good things! Thank you!
Glad you're here!
