School Counselor's Corner: Parent Pointers
Got 60 seconds for happiness?
Try this Happiness Hack: Be your own BFF. It turns out research shows that these 4 types of self-talk help us to solve problems and reach goals:
Neutral self-talk (e.g. What do I need to do next?)
Positive self-talk (e.g. I can do this!)
Compassionate self-talk (e.g. I'm going to be kind to myself.)
Self-disputing self-talk (e.g. That thought I have isn't really true.)
Grab your visual guide and watch the video to try a little self-talk.

Summer Resource
LA County Library Summer Discovery Program
LA County Library’s 2022 Summer Discovery Program, our annual celebration of reading and curiosity that encourages people of all ages to read and learn all summer long. This year the program will run June 1 – August 14. The library will offer both an online and paper version of our reading game, which encourages participants to meet various reading and exploration goals. Participants who complete the game will have an opportunity to win prizes. We will also be hosting various programs, activities, and more for all ages to encourage them to discover all the resources the Library has to offer!
Our hope is that participation in the Summer Discovery Program provides students with opportunities to continue reading and learning all summer long, ensuring their educational success in the next school year.
Attached is a flyer with instructions on how students and parents can sign up. You can also visit www.LACountyLibrary.org/Summer-Discovery. I look forward to working with you to help the students in our community discover all the library has to offer them.
