Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
March 12, 2020
Dear Parents,
I am aware of the heightened anxiety and concern that is present in our families and our community at this time in regards to coronavirus, especially with schools in our area closing for a day or more due to possible exposure.
At this time, Our Lady of Good Counsel School is open and operating at a normal capacity. There are no plans to close school at this time. If a school closure would need to occur, it would come under the direction of a health organization and would most likely occur on short notice. In the event a school closure would become necessary, our virtual learning protocol would be put in place. All students in Grades 1-8 would have virtual lessons posted on their classroom websites by 9 am in the morning. Students are responsible for all work online as they would be in school. All students in Grades 4-8 are equipped with chromebooks. Should a student not have internet or a computer a home, we ask that you contact your teacher directly and an accommodation would be made.
In an abundance of caution and with the health and welfare of our students in mind, the following changes have been made to our calendar:
- The PreK - K Donuts with Dad is being postponed. Please look for this event to be rescheduled at a later date.
- This month's Community Homeroom scheduled for Tuesday, March 31st, will be closed to outside visitors.
- The annual Spring Fling Auction is being postponed. More information will follow very shortly.
Please remember to email your child's teacher if your child is not going to be in school. It would be helpful if you shared with the teacher the reason your child is not in school. At this time, our absentee rate is very low among faculty, staff and students.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God’s Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley

Student Council & National Junior Honor Society Spotlight
Projects for the month of March
- Student Council service project during Lent: "Beads of Courage" - The student council will be working with the Bridgette Lauren Gori Child Life Foundation and Beads of Courage to honor those children coping with serious illness. This Lenten service project is an opportunity for students to offer up their day for someone in need. On March 30th, children will donate a dollar or more for their bead and dress down day. Students will wear the bead for the day to remember and pray for these children. At the end of the day, children will write an encouraging note and donate the bead which will be given to a child with an illness. The Beads of Courage program believes that “every time a bead is given courage is honored, suffering is alleviated, resilience is strengthened, and the experience of human caring is affirmed.” Our hope is that the OLGC student body is able to share the joy of the Easter season with these children.
- Our NJHS students continue to work with their peers during tutoring sessions every Tuesday. They will also be working with our middle school Social Studies teacher in hosting a "History Bee" to take place during Terra Nova week in the afternoon.
Spring Fling Auction - POSTPONED
