Friday Flyer

December 16, 2022

Dear Families,

Congratulations to our middle school students (as well as Ms. DePaola and Mr. Murray, of course) on an absolutely fantastic Winter Concert! We had a packed house to hear our various bands and chorus ensembles sing and play their hearts out – so impressive! We’ll have concert links next week for your enjoyment.

RECENT ARTICLES ABOUT POCO

I’ve attached a link to recent articles posted on our website about events and recognitions within our school – please take a look. Subjects include the Hour of Code, our teachers as published authors and presenters, cultural celebrations, and more! We welcome you to read the articles here.

11:45 DISMISSAL ON DECEMBER 23rd!

Just a reminder that we have a half-day on Friday, so we’ll be dismissing students at 11:45 for the holiday break, returning on TUESDAY, JANUARY 3.

CAROUSEL CAKES AND PIES PICKUP ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 19, GATE 1, 3:30-5:00

If you ordered cakes and pies from Carousel Cakes, pickup is after school in the Gate 1 Bus Circle from 3:30-5:00. Please mark your calendars and set an alarm so you don’t forget!

REMINDER: COMMUNITY VACCINATION CLINIC - DECEMBER 19

The district will be holding a community vaccination clinic on Monday, December 19, from 2:30-6:00 here at the school for the Flu and COVID-19. There are two flyers attached to this – one in English and one in Spanish – with more details.

POSTPONED: 6th – 8th GRADE WINTER “GLOW IN THE SNOW” DANCE – NOW: JANUARY 20

We are bringing back our Middle School Dance for 6th - 8th graders this year, hosted by the Student Government! Our winter dance "Glow in the Snow" will NOW be on Friday, January 20, from 6 - 8pm. There will be music, fun and light refreshments, but we recommend your child eats dinner prior to drop-off. The dance ends PROMPTLY at 8pm, please be at the school ten minutes prior to the end time to expedite pick-up.

SAVE THE DATE: ONE POCO NIGHT – JANUARY 26!

Our ONE POCO Night (formerly One World Night) is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, January 26th (Snow date February 2nd). As we begin planning for this community event, please fill out THIS SURVEY on family cultures. This information will be used to help us understand the cultural roots that make up our community and better inform our teaching. Thank you for your participation! More details about the night to follow in the coming weeks!

COVID HOME TEST KITS STILL AVAILABLE

If you’re in need of COVID home test kits, even if just to have in your closet, please reach out to Nurse Juliet and we can send home some boxes in your child’s backpack. We have plenty to share with you.

IMPORTANT REMINDER – FOOD ALLERGIES AND PARTIES

As is the case with all schools, we have children with a variety of serious food allergies. If you are interested in sending food into school, either for a birthday or for a holiday, you MUST first clear it with the classroom teacher(s) AND the nurse IN ADVANCE and food must include options for ALL students given the respective restrictions. If food arrives in our lobby, our security guard will call the nurse to make sure it was planned and approved in advance. If a student brings it in from the bus or car circle, we’ll send the child to the office to make sure it is approved. Otherwise, we won't be able to deliver it to the classroom. Thank you for understanding!

OUTDOOR RECESS

Even if the real feel is in the 30’s, we’re sending the kids outside for some cold-but-fresh air, so please make sure your child comes to school prepared – it's always better to at least have clothing options. (Yes, I still see kids in shorts and t-shirts.)

Looking ahead to upcoming holidays, Hanukkah begins this Sunday evening – Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!

Have an amazing weekend,

Adam
