The World of Westwood Wolves
Unleashing the Power of Our Pack- #PackPower!
Westwood's Mission:
January 15, 2023
From the principal's office...
We hope you are enjoying this long weekend; we look forward to seeing our Wolves back Tuesday! Report cards will be sent home in the blue Tuesday folders this week.
Our car rider line in the mornings was going well, but these last couple of cold mornings (when we have more car riders due to some normal walkers being dropped off by cars) have brought back the problem of tons of cars waiting until 7:43ish to turn into the line. This creates a problem when the tardy bell rings at 7:45. We have found if we start leaving the door open longer and longer to allow late students to come in, we start having cars arrive later and later. The line is wide open between 7:20 and 7:35ish, so it would really help if we had more people come during the earlier part of the line. If the car line was full the entire time and we just couldn't get it finished in time that would be an issue, but that's not the case. When the door is closed at 7:45 (or usually more like 7:47), the policy is that you check in late students with the QR code at the door or on the back of your car tag. We appreciate your help with this issue.
We had a record number of students have hot chocolate with Hazel Thursday and Friday- thank you to those of you who were able to help your child complete the reading bingo over Christmas break. We will have more opportunities this spring for treats with Hazel.
We hope you have a great week!

Information shared previously...
Can each class spell Westwood?
When students are late, they miss free breakfast (we always try to ask if they still need breakfast, but sometimes when it's busy in the office, it's hard to make sure). Also, every grade does some reading instruction first thing in the morning, so kids who aren't here on time miss that as well. Many students have a hard time coming in being ready to learn when they are upset or thrown off from being late. Please help us help our Wolves get off to the best start possible each day!
Car rider help...
We appreciate all of you who follow procedures and rules set in place to keep everyone safe and make our car line run smoothly. Thank you!
How do I receive information from Westwood?
PHONE CALLS: We also send out phone calls through an automated system; you will receive these calls if your phone number is correct in Registration Gateway. If your number changes, you can update the information in Registration Gateway, or call the office to update.
SOCIAL MEDIA/WEBSITE: The weekly parent update and other announcements/stories are also posted on our school's Facebook page and website. We are working on activating our school's Instagram account also- we'll let you know when that's up and running.
PAPER NOTES: We also send out paper notes at times; most of these will be sent in folders that come home every Tuesday. Every now and then, we need to send information on other days, so it's a great practice to check the backpacks each afternoon/evening.
We don't want you to miss any information, so we put things out in lots of ways!
Does your child want to use a device at school?
