District 303 Families

This message is a reminder that the deadline to choose a learning model for your child is Friday, July 24 at midnight. You may make your selection by logging into the Student Attendance Selection form, found at the bottom of the District website home page, using your Home Access Center (HAC) credentials. Families who do not make a selection by the deadline will be contacted by the district and asked to do so.

We want to provide you with some additional information related to instruction and food service that may help you make your decision:

  • Teacher contact time with students will be similar for both remote and in-person learning.

  • Remote learning class sizes will not exceed limits designated by the school board class size guidelines.

  • If you make the choice for your child to go from in-person to remote learning after the beginning of the school year, your child will be assigned to a remote learning teacher.

Food Service

  • The district will only accept meal payments through PushCoin.

  • Students will have the opportunity to wash their hands prior to and after eating.

  • All remote learners will have access to grab and go meals on Mondays and Thursdays. More information will be available prior to the beginning of school.

  • Accommodations will be made for all students with allergies to ensure they have a safe space to eat and do not feel isolated from peers.

Elementary Schools

  • Elementary school students will eat lunch in classrooms during non-instructional time, with meal service being available daily.

  • Elementary school students will not be allowed to eat in the classroom during instructional time. Teachers may provide a break, including while outside, for students to eat a snack.

Middle Schools

  • Middle School students will utilize the cafeteria and common spaces over six (6) lunch periods. Multiple service locations will be provided.

  • There will be a choice of meal provided daily (hot and cold) as well as a la carte beverages.

  • Custodial staff will do thorough cleaning and sanitizing of all student eating spaces before and after each lunch period.

  • Snacks will not be allowed to be consumed in the classrooms during instruction. All food consumption must be in designated spaces only. More information about where those areas are will be available closer to the start of school.

  • As students leave for the day, they will have the opportunity to purchase (free, if eligible) a grab and go breakfast for the next day.

News from the Nurse

The State of Illinois and State Board of Education have not issued any changes in the school health requirements for the upcoming school year and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly supports the continued provision of health care for children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This care includes well-child care (school exams), preventative care, screenings, and vaccinations. Thus, students entering school in D303 for the first time (early childhood, kindergarten, or first grades); students entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades; twelfth grade students requiring a meningococcal vaccine and transfer students must submit evidence of a physical examination and/or a complete record of immunizations in order to start school.

Parents/Guardians who have not already done so should reach out to their health care provider to schedule their child's mandated physical examination and immunizations. Completed exams and immunizations may be mailed to your child's school, in care of the school nurse or they may be dropped off at your child's school (please check with your student's school main office regarding office hours before dropping off forms). District 303 has a first-day exclusion policy with regard to health requirements so students who do not meet the health requirements mandated by the State of Illinois, will not be permitted to attend school until such time that they are compliant. If your child has a scheduled appointment to receive vaccines after the first day of school, a physician note indicating the date and time of your child's appointment must be submitted to the school prior to the first day.

Physical Examinations:

  • The completed physical examination and record of immunization form is expected at the school health office by the first day of student attendance.
  • Physical examinations must be done by a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse or examining physician assistant.
  • Physical examinations must be dated within twelve months prior to the first day of school.
  • Only the State of Illinois Department of Human Services Certificate of Child Health Examination form will be accepted.
  • Medical objections to any physical examination or immunization must be submitted in writing by a physician and must contain the required information.
  • Religious objections to any physical examination or immunization must be submitted by a parent/guardian in writing and must contain the required information. Click here for the religious objection form.

Immunization Requirements:

Immunization records must show proof of immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and chickenpox.

  • Sixth through twelfth grades are required to have the Tdap vaccine.
  • Sixth and twelfth grades are required to have the meningococcal vaccine.

Please make a copy of your child's health records before releasing them to the school.

Thank you,

Health Services
