For the week of November 12

Class Contract

Last week we worked together as a class to create a class contract. Our contract is an agreement on how we are going to treat each other. The students worked as tables to answer 4 questions:

1. How do you want to be treated by the teacher?

2. How do you want to be treated by each other?

3. How does the teacher want to be treated by you?

4. In the event of conflict, how are we going to treat each other?

Nothing went on to the contract unless the class agreed on it, and students voluntarily signed the contract once it was finished.

We will be revisiting, reminding each other of, and discussing our class contract on a daily basis. It is intended to serve as a reminder for all of us on how we want to be treated and how we've agreed to treat each other.

In addition to the class contract, we are also starting affirmations. An affirmation is a note that one student writes to another pointing out something kind or helpful that student did during the week. Each student will draw a name of a classmate out of a bucket on Monday and will need to write that student an affirmation by lunchtime on Friday. We will have a class meeting on Friday afternoon and read the affirmations. Adding this activity to our classroom will help the students look for and find something positive about others in our class.
