Truesdell Family Bulletin
August 27, 2023
Dear Truesdell School Community,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! The Truesdell team is thrilled to welcome our students and staff back to school. We hope that you were able to relax and create special memories with your friends and families. Now it's time to look forward to an awesome new school year as we continue to achieve excellence through equity.
Our staff has been working to hone their professional skill set and prepare learning environments for the new school year. We are grateful to our awesome facilities team who worked to ensure that both campuses were ready to receive students and promote learning. Our administrative services team has worked to ensure students are registered and ready to go.
We think Truesdell is a special place to learn and grow. We are proud of our school and our high expectations for students are unwavering. Our students are special children. They are beautiful, smart, kind, compassionate and eager to learn. We strive to make connections with them and their families so that everyone feels valued, accepted and safe. Our Truesdell motto, "Excellence through Equity" will continue to guide our mission of providing a diverse, inclusive, rigorous and joyful learning experience for all of our students.
We are also elated that we will be returning to normal school operations this school year. All COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. We understand that we will need to continue to monitor students and staff for symptoms and to accelerate learning for students to close learning gaps cause by the impact of the pandemic. Partnering with families continues to be crucial. We encourage all families to remain connected and informed by reading the monthly Truesdell Family Bulletins, remaining connected to the Remind App, the DCPS website and school and district-wide emails.
Again, we are excited to begin a new school year and are excited at the what the new year brings for our students.
Best,
Tracy Foster
Principal

Immunization Requirements
To attend school, families are required to submit their student’s up-to-date immunization records by the first day. Vaccinations are critical for preventing illness and reducing the dangers that can come with being exposed to certain diseases. Click here for more information and forms, including the full list of required childhood immunizations. If you have not already submitted your child’s immunization records to your school, here is what you need to do now:
- Make an appointment with your child’s doctor. DC offers resources to help find a health provider if you do not have health insurance. More resources can be found at pedsvax.dc.gov.
- Have the doctor complete the DC Universal Health Certificate. Your health provider may also provide a different proof of immunization document or an exemption explanation.
- Submit your immunization paperwork to your child’s school. You can drop it off or call the school’s main office if you have questions about how to submit your form.

We want to make sure that our youngest learners practice riding the bus before they begin school on Thursday, August 31st. Please note:
- Staff can ride the bus, but not parents.
- The bus will depart from Truesdell at 10:00am and make the loop to Sharpe and back.
