Congratulations Destination Imagination Students
This past weekend students grade level K-5 participated in the Destination Imagination Regional Tournament. These students were brave and did an outstanding job in their performance and Instant Challenges. These students have amazing talents! The intermediate team, 'D.I. of the Storm' earned third place in the region out of 17 teams who participated. The primary team, 'Rising Stars' competed and each received a medal for their performance. Great job everyone!
A special thanks to Team Managers, Mrs. Grimes and Ms. Clark (D.I. of the Storm) and Mrs. Dyson (Leonardtown The Rocket Stars).
S.O.A.R.R. Focus
As we continue to focus on our core school wide expectations and values, we are encouraging students to have a positive perspective and a growth mindset. Don't give-up and power through to a successful completion when it comes to what you are working on in and outside of school. It is okay to fail or struggle! Productive struggle can help students learn from mistakes and ultimately achieve. What can you do at home? Help your children power through adversity and overcome obstacles when they arise. We are looking forward to our students' success as they focus on our core values.
Coronavirus Information
If you have been following the news recently, you are aware of increasing concerns related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the United States and in Maryland. We are all at a heightened level of awareness. Superintendent, Dr. Scott Smith, shared information about what the school system is doing to monitor the situation and coordinate in the event cases arise in our community. On the school level, we want to reassure you that we are continuing to maintain and clean the school daily. Students are given friendly reminders to use warm water and soap while washing hands for at least 20 seconds. Teachers and staff are also encouraging students to wash hands regularly and use sanitizer when warranted. Preventative measures can go a long way, and we need your help to reinforce that message at home. Students are more than welcome to have mini-bottles of hand sanitizer or wipes in lunch boxes, and backpacks.

New Information
PTA Fun Run Fundraiser!
Please mark your calendars for March 23rd, the kick off of this year's PTA Osprey Fun Run! There will be a two week window for our school community to get pledges from all over the country through the support of families and friends. All monies raised through the Fun Run will go to support a STEM Lab and Wellness Grant for our school community!
STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. The PTA Osprey Fun Run will take place at LES on Friday, April 3rd! All are invited to come out to support our students during the Fun Run. Please stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks about how to register your child and this year's educational theme! Thank you for your support.
Please note, we encourage all students to participate in the Fun Run school community event even if they do not raise any funds. If it is your choice to have your child opt out of participating in the Fun Run, you can do so by not registering your student to collect funds. Additionally, on the day of the Fun Run, please let your child's teacher know that they will not be participating in the run, if you wish for them not to participate.
This year, if our school community can get pledges from all 50 states, Dr. Quick-McQueen will "KISS A PIG", seriously, she will!!
Thank you for your support! Questions: please email lesospreyspta@gmail.com
Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP)
The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) assessments of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) will build a pathway to college and career readiness by the end of high school, mark students’ progress toward this goal from grade 3 through high school, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support.
They are given in English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades 3-8 and in designated high school courses. Taking the MCAP Algebra 1 and English 10 exams is a graduation requirement.
School Improvement Team
The School Improvement Team's purpose is to:
- promote successes
- monitor progress
- implement ideas, plans, and strategies to bring about increased achievement and partnership.
This team of dedicated stakeholders (staff, parents, administrators, community members) will assist in the development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). The School Improvement Plan is developed based on the assessed instructional needs of the students and is an essential component of the school improvement process.
