SCHOOL NEWS AND VIEWS
January 16, 2020
This week's update:
Dear Parents,
It has been a short but busy week at Holy Cross. I hope that your week was productive and blessed.
First, please remember that there is no school tomorrow. Unless you have already registered your child for OOS tomorrow, registration is now closed as all groups are full. Students who are registered are reminded to eat breakfast at home and to bring a lunch box with them when the arrive in the morning.
There is no school on Monday in recognition of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Some classes have begun their MAP testing. Please be aware of when your students are taking their tests and be on time and be sure that they are well rested and have had a good breakfast. Tired, hungry kids do not perform well on tests.
I do need to ask your help in keeping our parking lot running smoothly. Our very nice Security Guard, Mr. James, is responsible for keeping the traffic moving at arrival and dismissal, as well as keeping the children safe that are cross our exit or the street. We have a clearly marked sign that the exit is RIGHT TURN ONLY during certain times of the day. Kindly be prepared to make a right turn and do not give him a problem about it. Rules exist for a reason and as adults, if we do not follow rules, it is hard to expect our children to.
There have been times when the traffic has been totally clear in both directions that Mr. James has allowed parents to turn left. I have advised him to stop this practice as it may be confusing. So, if Mr. James is out at the exit to the parking lot, kindly follow the right turn only rule. We were advised by the North Miami Police Department to enforce this policy for safety reasons. The inconvenience of going around the block is not as important as the safety of our children and others who are walking to school, as well as the ease of the traffic flow.
VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW!!!! Report card night is NEXT THURSDAY beginning at 4PM. It is very important that one parent or guardian for every student comes by to pick up the report card and to talk with teachers. Each teacher will have a designated space to sit and there will be a waiting area for parents who are waiting for each teacher.
Please bear in mind that others are waiting so these will be brief meetings. If you desire a full conference, use this time to schedule it with your child's teacher. We will close the doors at 6PM and conclude the evening at 6:30PM. This means that you must arrive by 6PM at the very latest. Please be sure to attend. This is very important.
The 2nd grading period ended today. All pink slips for the 2nd quarter are due. Please turn in all outstanding pink slips, as well as candy money, to Mrs. Sejba in the front office to receive credit for the 2nd quarter.
As always, have a great weekend and thank you for entrusting your children to our care.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Mackey
Did you know?????
Did you know that Martin Luther King was given a different name when he was born? His name was Michael King. His father went to Germany and was so impacted by the influence that Martin Luther (father of the Protestant Reformation and who the Lutheran Church was named after) that he legally changed his name to Martin Luther King Sr. and his son's name to Martin Luther King Jr.

Registration for 2020-2021 School year
Registration will begin for new families on Monday, March 2nd.
Every child must be re-registered each year. This is the only way that we can confirm your intentions to enroll your child with us next year.
All registration is done online and when you have completed it, you then need to come to the business office and sign your agreement.
Current parents have 2 weeks to register before we allow new parents to register. Once registration is open to the public, space is allotted on a first come basis. So, please plan ahead and do not delay.
There is a $100 discount on registration fees for those that register during early registration.
More information will follow but I am sharing this now just so you can get prepared.
