DVD Woes!
How to most easily play DVD videos on your computers
A new year has started and your Friendly-Neighborhood Instructional Technician is here to save your DVD playing day!
Many of you have experienced DVD troubles after the upgrade to Windows 10. For some reason Windows 10 has complicated the use of a simple program to play whatever DVD's you have.
For some background, this was already an issue for a handful of reasons and we have an existing procedure that is the ABSOLUTE simplest way to get your video playing ASAP!
This involves my trusty sidekick (and yours!)... SOFTWARE CENTER! YAY!
Look for VLC player
VLC player is a program that plays all sorts of video files, definitely including DVD's
Even before the problem that you're running into now, we used this program when Windows Media Player and/or Quicktime or any other video player wouldn't work correctly.
Be-AWARE!
Not "beware" but BE. Aware. Software Center will tell you that VLC failed the installation. This is not totally accurate for your purposes.
(For anyone that wants to know: this is because it has a couple more installation options to ask you, the first time that the program runs. Since it doesn't have that information when it "completes" it marks it as "Failed")
Options
It gives these two checkboxes for options. I always UNcheck these. This does reduce the chances for errors later down the line because it minimizes what you're asking the program to do (automatically, background processes). Once you've unchecked this, your should be good to go with VLC.
That's the basics for getting your VLC player!
