Say Something Week (March 2nd-6th)
This upcoming week, SMS will be taking part in national Say Something Week. Say Something is a youth violence prevention program created by Sandy Hook Promise, a national nonprofit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. During Say Something week, we will be discussing with students how to recognize signs, signals, and threats of potential violence and the importance of telling a trusted adult.
As a parent/caregiver, we know it can be hard to know how your child is feeling. Today, many teens and adolescents turn to online channels to express themselves, their thoughts and hopes, their anxieties, and their personal feelings. Some even go as far as hinting at hurting themselves or someone else. Their friends and peers are the eyes and ears of a school and community and may see or hear these communications, but they may not always understand or know what to do with that information.
We encourage you to talk to your child about Say Something and share what they are learning. Not only will this conversation help you to recognize any signs in your own child’s expressions, but it demonstrates to them that you also take this subject seriously and can be one of the trusted adults your child turns to if they suspect someone may need help.
As a part of our week, we encourage all students and staff to wear green on Monday (3/2). (Green is Sandy Hook Promise’s Official Color.)
We know that schools are meant to be safe places. Our hope is that Say Something will help equip our young people to do their part to keep our community safe. For more information on Say Something, please visit: http://www.sandyhookpromise.org/saysomething.

SHS Marching Mustangs
When you see the SHS Marching Mustangs, you notice their amazing sound, commitment, and attention to detail. You might not notice their uniforms are 16 years old, which is actually older than our freshmen and sophomore musicians. Our amazing volunteers have kept these uniforms in working order for the last 16 years (normal uniform life span is 10-12 years), but it’s time to retire the uniforms. That’s where you come in.
Currently, SIMB is in it’s final push to raise funds to purchase new uniforms for the 2020-2021 school year. Through our fundraising efforts and the contributions of the district uniform fund, we’re over 70% of our $100,000 goal, but we need your help to make the new uniforms happen. Please consider supporting the SIMB uniform fund! Your gift helps to make uniforms for 175 Marching Mustangs and Color Guard members possible.
SIMB is also holding an adult night out to raise funds for the uniforms. Information about the wing ding, as well as information about incentives for your uniform fund gifts, can be found by visiting https://simb.membershiptoolkit.com/packet/12639508 or visit www.strongnet.org/simb.
