Lesson Planning Resources

There are many great online resources for lessons and activities. Here are a few that have ideas you might like to use. Please keep in mind that most online resources are not specifically written with Texas TEKS in mind, so be sure that whatever you use, that the resource accurately portrays what the TEKS expects students to be able to do.

Textbooks

Just a word about textbooks. According to TEA's guidelines for adoption eligibility, the textbook must meet the TEKS by only 50%. (Proclamation 2017 Questions and Answers section, Question #32)

"32. Question

Regarding the nature of the content coverage in teacher and student instructional materials: Instructional materials must meet at least 50% of TEKS in the student version and 50% of TEKS in the teacher version; does it have to be the same 50% (i.e., coverage for some TEKS standards only appears in the teacher version, coverage for some TEKS standards only appears in the student version, but both student and teacher versions are covering at least 50%)?

Answer

Instructional materials that cover at least 50% of the TEKS in the student and teacher materials are eligible for adoption. For the purpose of determining eligibility for adoption, only those student expectations that are addressed in both the student and teacher materials will be considered.

Just a reminder to use the textbook as a resource along with other resources. Do not use the textbook as the only resource. Textbooks have great information, but may not cover all the TEKS that need to be taught or may not teach the TEK to the depth and rigor required.

TEKS Resource System

Resources and Supplies for the Mathematics Classroom--TEKS resource system

The content areas of math and science have each recently published a document to help districts and campuses make decisions about possible math manipulatives and science equipment to purchase for the classroom. Many of the districts affected by Hurricane Harvey were needing to purchase new supplies and these documents were created to help support this effort. Both documents can be found in the Resource Section of the respective content.

Notice the 5th grade math Year at a Glance above. The readiness and supporting standards have been color coded to emphasize their importance. All assessed grade level YAGs have been updated like the YAG above.Readiness Standards are color coded RED and Supporting Standards are color coded GREEN. The standards at the beginning of each math unit above are process standards (5.1A - 5.1G). If a standard is not red or green then it is either a process standard or a non-assessed standard.
