Principal's Message - Sept. 2nd

Happy Wednesday!

It has been a fantastic start to the year. The kids all seem so excited about being back at the school, learning new things, meeting new teachers, and spending time with their friends! Our school is buzzing with activity and we have almost 200 students with us this year. That is amazing!! Thank you to all of our wonderful families who returned from last year and to the amazing new families that have become a part of our community and our mission. Welcome! We appreciate you and know that you will find, at Holy Rosary/Juan Diego Academy, a commitment to providing a high-quality, innovative, culturally inclusive, Catholic education for your child(ren). You will find out more about our program and our community at the Back to School Night on Thursday, Sept. 10th from 6 pm - 7:30 pm. Please attend this important event.


From here on out, you will be receiving the newsletters on Wednesdays only. Also coming home on Wednesdays are the weekly envelopes, filled with very important information. Please take time to look through it, fill out any requested paperwork, and return the signed envelope on Thursdays. The envelopes go home with your youngest child.


Thank you for being patient as we work to fine-tune the drop off/pick up procedures. It takes a little practice, but we are all working hard to make things safe and efficient!

Ms. Margetts and Ms. Sarah - The Dynamic Duo!!

This year, our wonderful, dynamic team of Ms. Margetts and Ms. Sarah (McKinney) will be working on Development. They are coordinating the Annual Campaign, The Crab Feed and Auction, and the Annual Gala (Celebración). Because of this, they are moving out of handling the day-to-day/non-emergency issues around the school. This will allow them to focus on fund-raising, as we continue to build an amazing, innovative, dual-language school. If you have questions/concerns about any day-to-day issues, please see Mrs. Berenice Williams in the front office, Señora Farias for Pre-K matters, or Ms. Dempsey, the principal. Ms. Margetts will be functioning as the overall Director of the school this year.

Do You Want to Volunteer?

If you are planning to volunteer around the school or on field trips this year, you will need to attend a Safe Environment class. The Archdiocese of Seattle has changed to Virtus from Setanet. Virtus seems to be more user friendly, will track and notify people when it is time for a renewal, and allows people to do the online renewal every three years instead of annually. Here is info about how to register for upcoming classes, The next class is coming up at St. Charles in Tacoma on Wed, Sept. 9th from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm.

Free/Reduced Breakfast and Lunch - Do You Qualify?

Any child who has received state services such as Basic Food or TANF automatically qualifies for free meals this year. If you qualify based on your income, we will be sending out and processing those applications in early September. Applications will go home in today's envelope! Please return them as soon as possible.


Please be aware that, until you are qualified, if you choose to engage in the breakfast/lunch program, you may be billed for the meals. Billings go out the beginning of the following month.

Send your child in "free dress" for $2.00 this Friday. This is used to support two orphans that we have "adopted" from Mexico and Central America. Please make sure that the attire is appropriate for a Catholic School. Nothing torn, tight, or revealing, please. Also, t-shirts should be appropriate.

Chocolate Sale!!

We will begin our annual chocolate sale fund-raiser on Monday, Sept. 14th. Each child will be given a box of chocolate bars to sell. If you would like to help get things ready for this event, please contact our Fund-Raising Chair, Shanan O'Driscoll-Hedges at sohedges@gmail.com.

Picture Day!!

Picture Day is coming up! The students will be dressed in their uniforms for this photo. We can always use volunteers to help get the kids ready for their photo shoot! If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact Colleen Thomson, our Volunteer Coordinator Chair at casmt@comcast.net.
