News and Notes for LPES Families
Please read below for important information for LPES families. We are heading into a very busy time of year with a lot going on here at the school.
First Day Packets: As of today, we have only received about 50% of the first day packet information. Moving forward, students without updated information on file will not be permitted to go on field trips or participate in field day. It is very important that we have updated information on file in case we need to reach you for any reason.
In addition to the emergency forms and other important forms, it is important that we receive updated custody information. As arrangements change, it is very important that we have the most current agreements on file. If you have questions about custody paperwork or first day packets, please contact Mrs. Ludy in the main office.
Arrival and Dismissal: This is a reminder that the school day begins at 9:00 AM. Students may enter the building at 8:30 AM. Breakfast is served daily until 9:45 AM. Dismissal begins daily at 3:25 PM. Car riders should be picked up no later than 3:50 PM. If dismissal arrangements change for your son or daughter, please contact the main office by 1:00 PM so we have time to notify the teacher and the student. Thank you in advance for for your cooperation in this matter.
Lunch Balances: There has been a lot in the news recently about "lunch shaming". This is not a practice we engage in here at Pottsgrove. Students are always able to get the lunch of their choice. We do have a number of students with significant lunch balances that we would like to resolve. We would like to work with families to resolve the unpaid fees in a timely manner. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss how we can work together to come to a resolution. If you have questions about how to apply for our free/reduced lunch program, please contact Mrs. Ludy in the main office. The forms can also be found on our website. The applications for this federal program do need to be resubmitted every year.
Halloween: We do not celebrate Halloween during the school day. I am aware that some buildings do costume activities, LPES does not. Students should not wear Halloween Costumes to school on Halloween. Trunk or Treat is our event where we encourage children to come in costume. Trunk or Treat is Saturday, October 26 from 4:00-5:50 PM. Separate flyers have come home from the PTA and details are on the PTA Facebook page and Class Dojo. We will have Fall Parties in the classrooms on Friday, November 1 and we will have our fall STEAM Day the morning of November 1. So there are plenty of fun things for the children to engage in during the next week.
Early Dismissal: We will be dismissing at 1:25 PM on Thursday, October 31. Please remember to notify child care providers of the change and let us know if a student's dismissal procedures will be different.
PBIS: Formerly know as SWPBS! We have recently implemented a new school wide program to recognize children that are consistently following the Falcon Four. At this time we are focusing on lunch, recess and the transitions to and from lunch and recess. Students earn tickets and then deposit the tickets into the Falcons Nest located near the main office. We will be randomly selecting tickets and recognizing individual students on a weekly basis. When we earn 1500 tickets as a building, we will have a school wide celebration!
Farmers Market: The District Wellness Committee and our food service department are sponsoring a Farmers Market at each of the elementary schools this fall. This is a new activity for Pottsgrove and we are excited to bring this to our students and families. More information will be coming home soon. We will also be looking for some parent volunteers, so look for that to come home soon as well.
On Friday, October 18, we had a special assembly sponsored by the LPPD and the school district featuring Stephanie Grace. Stephanie is a 2015 Boyertown Grad and she is using her talent to spread a message on healthy school environments to students. We all enjoyed the assembly and are looking at ways to incorporate Stephanie's message into our school culture. Below are some pictures from the assembly and here is the link to Stephanie's web site if you would like to learn more. https://www.stephanie-grace.com/
On Thursday, October 17, the PTA sponsored The Wonders of the Rain forest. The program shared information about the rain forests of the world and also brought some animal friends from the rain forest. Some of the students and staff got to get "up close and personal" to the animals. Check out some pictures below.
