Monday Motivation
Notes from the Principal's Desk
The reset button is not just reserved for tough student-teacher dynamics. It's for any challenging relationships you've experienced this year. If you noticed suboptimal connections with any colleagues, now would be a great time to redefine those relationships. Chances are if you are looking for a restart, so are they. Cultivating paths to better understand one another is where new opportunities exist. This also contributes to the greater functionality of the whole school--something The Daily Coach (https://www.thedaily.coach/p/alignment-nfl-dallas-crew-boat) calls "Getting into Organizational Alignment." Alignment is "a state of agreement of cooperation among persons or groups with a common cause or viewpoint." Our potential to get into organizational alignment depends on mutual trust and an understanding of our roles and responsibilities within the school. Every team member plays a critical role, and every role serves a critical function. Belief in the importance of the work we are all achieving helps to facilitate an alignment in our shared beliefs even when we must embark on different pathways, and tasks, to fulfill the school's mission and vision.
When Monday night rolls through, as you wrap up your plans for Tuesday, and the rest of the week, leave space for 1) excitement at seeing your students again after such a long hiatus 2) "Checking In" with someone who's not part of your typical circuit. 3) mending fences to open the door to new opportunities 4) letting go of feelings and perceptions that take joy out of your work and 5) discovering new talents and gifts in your students that you can coach up and praise.
