Fun Facts and Crafts with Anna Lineback
Valentine's Day Edition
Happy Valentine's Day! This week I will be showing you how to make origami conversation hearts to decorate your house/room with. This craft requires very few materials, and I hope you like it! Sorry about my messy nails in these photos, the polish was chipping off :(
Materials Needed-
•Paper
•Scissors
•Markers (optional)
Step 1-Find a flat surface and cut a piece of paper into a square.
Step 2- Fold the paper hot dog style | Step 3- Unfold the previous fold, and fold it again but the other way. | Step 4- Unfold the previous fold. Those two folds will create guidelines. Use the horizontal guideline to fold the bottom half of the paper in half like this… |
Step 8- Fold in the top two corners like this… | Step 9- Fold over the triangle and tuck the top into the pocket | Step 10- Flatten the top part (the part that looks like a bow tie) |
Step 11- Fold in the top corners like this | Step 12- Fold down the tips a little bit at the top if needed | You’re done!If you want you can write sayings on these and make them look like conversation hearts, I like to put them as decorations around my house. |
Black History Month
By: Gustavo Contreras
Black history month is here and so is the controversial topic about racism. During the last week I interview two black people and asked about their opinion on black history month. One of the two people said that she would like for the school staff to do a better job at stopping racism when racial comments are made. Another thing she said was that the school should dedicate at least a home room period to teach a little bit of black culture. The last thing that she said (Shout out to Mrs. Schildmeir) was that Mrs.Schildmier was one of the only teachers that student has seen stopping the racial comments.
The next person I interviewed said that she loves the fact that there is a whole month to “Blacks”. She also loves it because she can say that its half of her month since shes mixed. During the conversation I asked what she thought about racism. She said that she hopes that it ends some day, but knows that in this world it’ll never end. She also says that she feels like the teachers don’t really care about racism and are doing nothing to stop it. The last thing they both agreed on was that they think the KKK was messed up and it made one of them sick to think about all the pain they brought on African Americans. They also thought that the number of racist kids in this school is huge and a number they don’t see decreasing any time soon. One of them said that the number of times she hears racial slurs in the halls and directed at her is not okay. So as we continue to move along the month please make sure to careful on what you say and be mindful.
