New Format: Monday/Wednesday Meetings
Given the wide range of professional needs of District 68 staff, Elementary Monday Meetings and Junior High Wednesday Meetings for the 2014-2015 school year will be grouped into one of four categories. Please see the Master Calendar for specifics as to which type of meeting will be held on a given week.
All Staff: School Improvement
Focused learners engage in school improvement efforts designed to meet the specific needs of their specific students. This time during the year is set aside for building based school improvement efforts when all staff are available as a whole school team.
All Staff: SPED Collaboration or Individual PD/Reflection
Focused learners spend ample time discussing and reflecting upon their instructional impact on all children. This time during the year enables teaching assistants to work with special educators in the building and/or time to individually or collaboratively reflect on practice and make necessary next steps.
Focused learners engage in school improvement efforts designed to meet the specific needs of their specific students. This time during the year is set aside for building based school improvement efforts with certified staff only.
Certified Staff: Individual PD/ Reflection
Focused learners are able to reflect and self-assess his/her learning in order to determine next steps toward developing or continuing competency. This time during the year allows staff individual or collaboratively to reflect on practice and make necessary next steps to grow as an educator.
Master Calendar
On Monday, June 9th the 2014-2015 Master Calendar will be distributed.
"A" and "B" Week Changes
Since coaches will be working with principals during Principal PLCs to support the implementation of the Calkins Units of Study, all of these meetings cannot be held on "A" weeks. Beginning in the fall, "A" weeks will no longer be activity weeks and "B" weeks will no longer be building only weeks. Each school will schedule their Principal PLC meetings on either an "A" week of a "B" week.
Example: Edgewood is an "A" week school and will hold Principal PLC's during those weeks and should plan on "B" weeks for other activities. Meadowview, whom they share an instructional coach with, will be a "B" week school. This means Meadowview will hold Principal PLCs during "B" weeks and other activities during "A" weeks.
"A" Week Principal PLC Schools:
- Edgewood
- Sipley
- Willow Creek
"B" Week Principal PLC Schools:
- Goodrich
- Meadowview
- Murphy
Tuesday is District Day
No Principal PLC meetings will be scheduled on Tuesdays during the school year. This will be a day reserved for administrative meetings as well as other meetings requiring teachers to leave their classrooms for district events.
Rigorous Curriculum Design
Rigorous Curriculum Design (RCD) is a model for designing or redesigning curriculum so that it truly represents a rigorous 21st-century set of comprehensive units of study aligned with existing state and the new Common Core State Standards. RCD is the process used to develop curriculum in Woodridge School District 68.
Tom Hierck, author and consultant for the Leadership and Learning Center will once again be in the district to present this two-day training to interested staff.
Accelerating Academic Achievement for English Language Learners
Sheltered instruction strategies (e.g., accessing prior knowledge, using processing time, graphic organizers) modeled by experts in the field of language acquisition, provide teachers with a deep understanding of how to engage students in active listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Bonnie Bishop, lead ELL consultant for the Leadership and Learning Center will once again be in the district to present this two-day training to interested staff.
Pyramid of Behavior Interventions: 7 Keys to a Positive Learning Environment
Students thrive when educators commit to proactively meeting their behavioral as well as academic needs. This training will help teachers and school leaders transform the research on behavior, response to intervention, and professional learning communities into practical strategies they can use to create a school culture and classroom climates in which learning is primed to occur.
Tom Hierck, lead author, will present this two-day training to interested staff.
