Type 2 Diabetes Medications
- Metformin: (most common) decreases the amount of sugar the liver makes and the stomach absorbs
- Actos: decreases the amount of glucose released by the live; teaches the insulin in your body how to be more efficient; can combine with other meds for better control
- Glimepiride: lowers your blood sugar by causing the release of the body's natural insulin; can take colesevelam with it to decrease absorbtion of glimepiride

most common oral treatment for type 2 diabetees
Insulin Pump
for Type 1 Diabetic
Hyper vs Hypo
Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) VS Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Insulin Pumps
How they work...
- deliver rapid or short-acting insulin 24 hours a day through a catheter under your skin
- when you eat carbs in a meal, you press buttons on the pump to release more insulin (called bolus) into the body to cover the carbs you just ate
- if you notice you have unusually high blood glucose levels before you eat, you can give yourself a supplemental bolus of insulin to get it back into range
- must check your blood sugar level atleast 4x a day along with using the pump
How it helps Type 1 Patients...
- insulin is delivered continuously throughout the whole day and keeps your blood glucose levels in range between meals and overnight
- simulates the normal speed your pancreas releases insulin (slowly)
- instead of having to inject yourself with the insulin, it just gives it to you automatically
