Happy Belated Mother's Day
This week, our preschool teachers are preparing for their parent conferences that will be conducted next week. I would like to invite you all to read over our new curriculum materials. Each foundation book has wonderful information and resources that can piggy back on what we learned last week. You can choose to read a book per week and/or ask your classroom teacher or myself, to share our online Creative Curriculum access with you and you can begin watching videos on the curriculum. On Friday, please send me a synopsis of what you read.

Fostering Resiliency During COVID
Please join me this Saturday for a Trauma Informed Training for family child care providers hosted by YMCA Childcare Resource Service, Foster Care Bridge Program. Responding to the pandemic related needs of children is unlike any other type of work with children. It is distinct because it involves an awareness of our own stress related symptoms, as well as helping children and their support systems cope with the emotional impact of a traumatic event.
Fostering Resiliency during Covid 19 covers how trauma-informed principles and practices can help providers take good care of themselves, while helping others in the face of acute stress resulting from COVID-19. This includes tips to help children increase buffering and protective factors.
The training will be online through Zoom. Participants will be emailed the Zoom link. If you participate, you may use this towards your weekly PD and select not to work a day this week in order to participate on Saturday.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PRESCHOOL STAFF - SDCOE'S First Cohort INCLUSION COURSE!

What Is COVID-19? And How Does It Relate to Child Development?
You’ve almost certainly heard of COVID-19 at this point. In fact, your life is probably very different than it was before the outbreak. You may be one of the billions of people around the world being asked to stay home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. These stay-at-home orders mean children can’t go to school or childcare, and some adults are not able to work, thus losing income.
It’s a stressful time for everyone, worldwide, but in the midst of it all, children’s development doesn’t hit the pause button. They continue to learn and grow, and there are still easy and free activities parents and caregivers can provide for their children, in spite of a situation that can feel frightening and overwhelming.
This infographic explains the basics of what COVID-19 is, and what it can mean for stress levels in both children and the adults who care for them. It also offers some easy and concrete solutions to help caregivers ensure that both they and the children they care for don’t experience long-term effects of stress. Finally, it explains how all of us as a society can work to ensure the health and well-being of all our fellow community members, both now and in the future.

In the midst of a global pandemic, pediatricians are serving a unique role. While the coronavirus is generally showing milder effects on babies and children than on adults, there are still health concerns and considerations for infants in need of scheduled vaccinations, and kids who are home all day with parents who may be facing stressful situations.
