Stay safe and enjoy the holiday!

MIE Club Seeking Members
Chargers, are you interested in learning more about different branches of engineering? How about fun engineering challenges? If so, join Minorities in Engineering (or MIE) where you can attend webinars with guest speakers talking about the different departments; participate in design challenges, or just relax and play some games. The first webinar is next Tuesday, December 1st at 7:30 PM. It will be hosted by the Teen Enrichment Network program (link will be provided in Remind). We will have meetings on our own in the future and the club is open to ALL students (not just minorities) and will be a fun opportunity to explore various fields of engineering. The Teen Enrichment Network also has meetings on Thursday nights called "safe space" where teens can have a comfortable place to chat. If either of these activities seems interesting to you, don't be afraid to reach out to our officers and join the Remind for more information!

Voluntary Student Accident Plan Coverage
Voluntary student accident plan coverage during the VHSL revised sports seasons is available.
You can download a student insurance application or enroll online at www.kidguardinsurance.com. Printed football insurance enrollment forms including enrollment instructions are also available at the school.
Coverage options for parents to purchase accident protection during VHSL sanctioned sports practices and competitions during the revised VHSL designated football season dates will again be available. The deadline date for the purchase of the tackle football insurance plan is February 26, 2021.
The $9.00 school time plan will provide coverage for interscholastic sports during the revised VHSL specified season’s dates except for tackle football. A $35.00 extra premium payment is required to cover tackle football practices and competitions.
The $9 school time or $35 football plans will not cover injuries sustained during sport’s off-season conditioning programs, practices, scrimmages, games, camps, leagues, clinics, or competitions that are conducted prior to the designated VHSL sanctioned sports season’s dates. However, a student may purchase the 24 Hour Extended Plan for offseason conditioning and weight training.
The deadline date for the purchase of the tackle football insurance plan is February 26, 2021. All football insurance applications and premium payments received after February 26th will be refunded to parents and coverage will be void.
The purchase of the 2020-2021 school insurance plans will provide accident protection for VHSL sanctioned activities only during the current, 2020-2021 school year. The School Time Plans expire on the last day of school and the 24 Hour Extended Plan will extend coverage to the summer and expire on the last day of summer.
WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
I hope that this final communication prior to Thanksgiving Break finds you eager to experience a much needed time of rest and rejuvenation. I do know that our large team of educators and critical support staff are ready for a break. After months and months of on-going training, creating, and adapting to meet the significant demands of distance and hybrid learning, they are weary and deserving of a short break. Thank you for supporting them and all of us through this challenging and sometimes surreal period of time! Below are a few updates:
Announcements & Reminders
On November 30th at 5:00 p.m., the school board will hold a work session to receive updates on the Return to Learn implementation and the hybrid instructional model. At the same meeting, staff will share up to date information and considerations regarding the VHSL winter and spring sports/activities. The meeting will be live-streamed and recorded. In addition to staff presentations/reports, representatives from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and our Region 16 Health District will be on hand to share and/or respond to questions from board members.
Throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, cases of COVID-19 continue to increase. Recently, we have seen one of the key metrics we monitor and evaluate, 14-day case incidence, move into a higher risk category. Please keep in mind that this data can and often does fluctuate daily. As part of our mitigation strategy, we monitor this data closely. It is also important to note that these metrics are not necessarily a stand alone trigger to shift the entire school division back to a full remote/distance learning mode but rather are part of our current and on-going approach that is advised and supported by local VDH officials.
As a reminder, our COVID-19 Dashboard is updated weekly and can be viewed in the Return to Learn section on each school’s website or by clicking this link: SCPS COVID-19 Dashboard. We have added to our webpage the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Dashboard link. This site provides data and statistics regarding COVID-19 positivity rates and cases per 100,000 by locality, region, and state. We continue to remain in moderate ranges according to the 14-day averages.
We received an additional 950 devices last week and anticipate more coming this week as well! In talking with our vendor, we are hoping to acquire all the devices before the end of next month!
The November 12th Family Connection webinar that was cancelled due to technical issues will be live-streamed on Tuesday, December 1st at 5:00 p.m. at www.regionalwebtv.com/family-connection. The topic will focus on Student Support Services and community resources. If you are unable to view it live, it will be recorded and posted at the same link for viewing at any time.
Now's the perfect time to thank a teacher, bus driver, nurse, and other school staff! Whether you are a SCPS graduate or the parent of a current student, the Spotsylvania Education Foundation is hosting a virtual Thank-A-Thon to give these dedicated individuals a special shout out. For complete details, please visit the Foundation’s website at www.sef4education.org/thank-a-thon/.
Wishing all of our families a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
