Definition: There are two types of location, absolute and relative.

absolute location is: A specific location, Examples: latitude and longitude

relative location is: An approximate location, Examples: next door to, down the street

Albany's absolute location is: 45.6333° N, 94.5667° W

Albany's relative location is: 20 miles west of St Cloud

Definition: An area defined by everything in it, there are two types of places. Human characteristics, and Physical Characteristics.

Human: What is put in place by humans, Examples: buildings, food, clothing

Physical: landforms, etc.

My houses human characteristics: Live by dirt road, lots of neighbors, deer stands in woods, farms, man made pond.

My houses physical characteristics: Trees, grass, lake, dirt, pond.

Human-Environmental Interaction

Definition: How people adapt to, modify and depend on the environment can be positive or negative.

Adapt: Make something suitable for a new use/purpose

Modify: When you make partial or minor changes on something

Depend: Rely on something for support or maintenance

I adapt to the weather by wearing jacket and boots when it snows

I modify the weather by cutting down a tree then replanting tree

We depend on the environment for sunlight and rain to keep crops growing


Definition: The way that people, good, ideas, and information move from one place to another.

Transportation: My parents and siblings drive me.

Goods: My shirt is from Honduras

Communication: I have a phone so I text, snap chat, and call

Travel: I went to florida


Definition: An area defined by certain similar and unifying characteristics.

Physical: The Mississippi River

Human: Mount Rushmore
