Panther Weekly
News from Park View Elementary School: March 6, 2020
A note from Principal Mate
Park View Families,
We had a very exciting week at Park View. This week we had several presentations, discussions, and simulations for disability awareness week. If you have not had the opportunity to speak to your student about their experience this week, I encourage you to do so. I have been beyond impressed with the discussion and questions our young learners posed. The understanding that we are all different in our own unique way, yet all the same has been a powerful message for students.
This week could not be possible without all of the parent volunteers. I am so grateful for the outpour of volunteering that took place. I thank you all. It was truly a team effort with parents at the center helping run activities.
Starting next week, our next partnership is with the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. We have partnered with them for a March food drive. We will be holding a friendly competition between the homerooms on items gathered for the food drive. We are looking for non-perishable food items to help restock the pantry. Students can bring items to their classroom teacher.
I hope you enjoy the "forecasted" warm weather this weekend.
If you need anything at any time, please let me know. Have a happy, safe and fun weekend!

Special Requests
It’s hard to believe, but we are about to begin the process of building classes for the 2020-2021 school year. Your child’s classroom teacher, the grade-level teaching team, all our specialists, and administration each play a role in the process, as we work to place each of the children into the very best setting that we can. We consider learning styles, student personalities, girl/boy ratio, class size, student academic strengths and needs, and we strive for a heterogeneous class make up (full range of abilities).
Parents also know valuable information that can help us place your children. If you are interested, you may submit a letter to me no later than Thursday, March 26, 2020. Please keep in mind that I will accept the following information from parents:
If there is information about your child’s learning style that you feel is pertinent, please share this information.
If an older child in your immediate family had a teacher and you’d like to request that a younger sibling not have the same teacher, please share this information.
If you know that your child must be separated from a specific child to optimize your child’s learning experience, please share this information.
Please note: Parental requests for specific teachers or classrooms are NOT accepted.
Factoring in all the above variables as we create class lists is a delicate balancing act. I will take each request into consideration as we do our best to meet the needs of all our students.
Sincerely,
Kristie Mate
Principal
