Digital Newsletter for Chehalem Elementary School
March 2018
I want to start by thanking all of you who came to parent teacher conferences. We had a 96% attendance rate! It means so much when students know their parents are invested and interested in how they are doing at school. Also, thank you for supporting the book fair. It was a huge success! Thank you especially to Nicole Blanchard, our Library Media Assistant, for coordinating and for all the volunteers who helped man the store.
Speaking of volunteers, our Volunteer appreciation celebration is coming up on April 20th. Stay tuned for more information to come in April regarding specifics.
Some exciting things on the horizon include our 5th graders going to Oregon State University for an extended day field trip on March 14th. Additionally, all 5th grade classes will attend 5 sessions of Starbase at the Oregon Air National Guard headquarters near the airport. This is a wonderful opportunity that our 5th grade classes have been able to take advantage of over the past three years (and hopefully for years to come).
Spring break is just two weeks away. I hope that you and your families have a fun and relaxing time off.

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) & Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) Testing
In preparation for testing, it will be important for students to eat a good breakfast, get plenty of sleep, and attend school each day. Assessments will measure what children know, as well as the strategies students use to come to an answer. Practice tests are available online for families who wish for resources to further prepare.
Please contact our Testing Coordinator, Kari Downey, with any questions you may have.
