Principal's Message

Happy February Sunset Lake Families!

What a crazy end of January! Mother Nature really decided to turn up the winter challenges for us to work through. We hope everyone was safe and able to make the most of the snow/cold days! The Sunset Lake staff is now scrambling a bit to catch up on our lost teaching days.

This week is our Student Led Conferences. Our teachers are looking forward to watching their student leaders share their own student data with you. Please arrive on time to help our student leaders have as much time as possible to share their accomplishments.

Late Start: Monday, February 11th is our next late start day. Teachers utilize this time to work in teams and to assess our work with our School Improvement. School will begin two hours later on that Monday.

Count Day: Our school funding is based on our student enrollment. Each year we are required to confirm our student population for each semester. Wednesday, February 13th is our second count day of the year. Attendance on this day is extra important, so please help us with this process by having your child (if healthy of course!) be present at school on 2/13.

Please be sure to follow our end of day routines to help us ensure safety for all of our students. If you need to pick up your child early you can come into the office and we will call your child down for you. For students being picked up at the regular end of the day we ask that ALL families utilize our pick-up process and wait outside our building to pick up your child. All pedestrians should use the Pedestrian Painted Walk-Way to keep from people walking between cars and to keep the flow of our traffic moving.

Drop-off-- please have your child get out of the car as soon as your car has come to a stop by the curb. It is important that we keep cars moving in a constant flow.

Yours in Learning,

Amie McCaw

Family Synergy Night

Thursday, March 7th, 6-8pm

Sunset Lake Elementary Vicksburg, MI 49097

We are super excited to announce that this year's Family Leader Night will be led by our Family Lighthouse Team. Our Family Lighthouse Team is made up of a few mighty parent volunteers that want to help our school grow in our 7 Habits and help us with growing student leaders through our school improvement process.

This year's family event is titled Family Synergy Night and will be March 7, 6-8pm. We will be incorporating literacy and family engagement with our 7 Habits. Our format is a great speaker to kick-off our evening and then we will have local organizations at our building to connect with our families and to help us come together as a community. We hope your family is able to attend!

Habit #4 Think Win Win

In the month of February we are working on Habit #4- Think Win-Win. This habit is a great one for all of us to keep at our forefront. Students are able to use this when a disagreement comes up at school or at home. Families can think Win-Win when making decisions about family events or when having to get household chores done. Here are some words from The Leader in Me book to help your family conversation: Think Win-Win involves saying to yourself, I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in other's Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for options that work for both sides. Ask your child about Habit #4 and see what they can teach you.
