Week of December 6
On Monday, December 6, Dr. Cardona and the Board of Trustees announced that Friday, December 17, is a district-wide Mental Health Day. All SMCISD campuses will be closed and students will return to school on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

AVID National Conference
SMCISD Educators and Administrators attended the AVID National Conference from December 9-11. After attaining an AVID National Demonstration School Status, Dr. Cardona and the Goodnight Middle School staff were invited to present the positive impact AVID has had in SMCISD. Each session centered around the discussion of the rigor incorporated in the classrooms, the journey of breaking down barriers, alignment of the work, and what it looks like to advocate for students.


The Winter Spectacular
The 2021 Dance Winter Show was all things festive! Shoutout to all the choreographers for organizing the holiday dances. Thank you to the audience for your support and to the SMHS Jazz Band for the lovely tunes. Congratulations on a job well done to each and every Rattler performer!


San Marcos Daily Record Gifts
Thank you to the San Marcos Daily Record for sponsoring a toy drive for San Marcos CISD families! Thank you to the San Marcos community for your generous donations! Our parent liaisons are excited to get the toys wrapped and delivered to our families.


Bowie Literacy Night
Bowie Elementary opened the campus doors for students and parents to enjoy a night of reading at Literacy Night. Along with several literacy stations, Bowies families enjoyed photos with Santa, holiday treats, and the Scholastic Book Fair.

District Play has begun
The Lady Rattlers kicked off their 2021-2022 season versus Lake Travis on Tuesday, December 7. On Friday, December 10, the Lady Rattlers defeated Westlake (58-57). Angelina Sotello was the leading scorer with 22 points & Dede Pierson scored 21 points. Pierson & Ezra Tobias each had 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Reagan Harris sealed the team victory with the game-winning shot. Congratulations and best of luck this season!


River City Tournament Champions
This past weekend the Boys Basketball team competed in the River City Tournament. On December 11, the Rattlers beat Hutto to earn the Championship title. Kaden Gumbs earned Tournament MVP and Malik Presley earned All-Tournament. Congratulations to the Boys Basketball program, thank you Comal ISD for the hospitality, and shoutout to Rattler Nation for all the support! Pack the Snake Pit on December 21, at 6:00 PM, as your Rattlers will face Hays in game one of district play.

Mr. 1,000 - Malik Presley
During the tournament championship run this weekend, junior Malik Presley surpassed 1,000 career points. Congratulations, Malik!

Lady Rattler Holiday Classic
The Goodnight and Miller Girls’ basketball teams competed well this past Saturday in the 9th Annual Lady Rattler Holiday Classic. The tournament consisted of 4 brackets in the following divisions: 8th A, 8th B, 7th A, and 7B. In the 8th A bracket, Miller finished 2nd place and Goodnight 3rd. In the 8th B bracket, Miller took 3rd and Goodnight won the Consolation game. Goodnight 7A placed 2nd and 7B placed 3rd! All around, congrats on a job well done, Lady Rattlers!
