Sunday Message
April 6-10
Principal's Message
I hope you are safe and well. Several PUE staff members volunteered to participate in our school's Chromebook distribution on Friday, April 3 for families in need of a device for remote learning. Thank you to Mrs. Perry, Mr. Stern, Mrs. McKearney, and Ms. Haley. Pictures are included below.
District Grading Plans During School Closure
On Friday, Wake County Public Schools provided additional guidance on grading. Given that Track 1 students completed the 3rd grading period prior to school closure, they will receive grades on our standard grading system. This means students on Track 1 will receive a Level 1, 2, 3 or 4 per the typical grading system.
Students on Track 2, 3, and 4 will receive grades based on the following guidance from the NC Department of Public Instruction and the district:
For all other calendars, we are considering the third quarter grading period to be over. Teachers will consider data points and student work samples collected as of March 13 to determine student progress and mastery for the 3rd quarter. PowerSchool will be updated by the end of the school year, based on any additional guidance received from the North Carolina State Board of Education.
If the student’s performance to date would reflect Level 2, 3 or 4, the student will be marked as “P” (Pass) for the 3rd quarter.
If the student’s performance to date would reflect Level 1, the student will be marked as “I” (Incomplete) for the 3rd quarter. The teacher will work with the student to determine an appropriate plan of action to support growth in key learning areas.
For all students, teachers will identify areas of strength and areas for potential growth and focus for next learning.
All teachers will maintain grades and performance data from the 3rd quarter to continue monitoring progress.
Please note that report cards will not be mailed home during the duration of school closure. Parents may reach out to their child's teacher to schedule a conference via Google Meet or phone.
UNC TV & NC Department of Public Instruction Partnership
UNC-TV and the NC Department of Public Instruction have established a partnership that will support remote learning with content that will be accessible to students—especially those with limited or no internet access—at no charge.
Each weekday, two blocks of programming on UNC-TV's North Carolina Channel will serve:
Fourth- through eighth-grade students, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
9th- through 12th-grade students, from 1 to 6 p.m. (actual times may vary, please check the weekly schedule online here).
For PreK through third grade, UNC-TV's 24/7 “PBS KIDS” channel -- Rootle -- will continue providing programming appropriate for that age group.
These educational program blocks are available on the North Carolina Channel, available statewide for free over-the-air, through cable providers and streamed online.
