Jaguar News
Volume 1, Issue 24 - February 16, 2018
In light of the horrific events in Florida this week, I want to take the time to assure you that our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students. This is a responsibility we take very seriously and our system has proactive plans and procedures to protect our students. We frequently conduct practice drills and constantly improve measures for responding to emergency situations.
If you are concerned about your child's response to this or any tragic event, reach to Gentry counselors for additional resources and support. I also attach a guide for parents, caregivers, and teachers published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration with tips for talking with children after a traumatic event. I hope you will find this resource helpful.
Finally, help us remind students that they have an obligation to bring information about situations that cause them concern to adults in the school, so that we can respond quickly and appropriately to protect their safety.

7th/8th Grade Track and Field
If your 7th or 8th grade student is interested in participating on the Gentry track and field team, please encourage them to attend our first practice on Monday, February 26th from 2:35-5:00 pm. Students can change into their workout clothes in the locker rooms and then proceed to the gym. Please have your student dress accordingly for the weather as they will be practicing outside on most days.
It is important to note that your student's MSHSAA paperwork must be on file in the main office prior to this first practice. Students will not be permitted to practice until this paperwork has been submitted. Feel free to contact the main office at 214-3240 if you would like to verify this information.
Lastly, our 7th/8th grade Track and Field Parent Informational Meeting will immediately follow this practice on February 26th at 5:00 pm in the GMS cafe'.
National Geographic Bee
Congratulations to Rohan Rao! He was crowned the Gentry Middle School Champion of the National Geographic Bee on January 23. Rohan has since taken a written test in order to qualify for the State Geography Bee, which he won last year. No matter his future results, we are grateful and proud of the way he has represented and will continue to represent Gentry. In addition, we are proud of the way that Kate Endersby and Gram Coallier gave Rohan real competition for the championship round, finishing as the 2nd and 3rdplace winners respectively.
Thanks to ALL who competed and best of luck to our champion!
