Safety Spotlight — Oregon Health Authority Issues Public Health Warning to Stop Using All Vaping Products
The Oregon Health Authority has issued a public health warning urging people to immediately stop using all vaping products.
Public health officials have now linked a second Oregon death to the use of vaping products. The Oregon Health Authority urges Oregonians to stop using all vaping products until federal and state officials have determined the cause of serious lung injuries and deaths linked to the use of both cannabis and nicotine products. No vaping products should be considered safe. Until health experts can identify why people who have used these products have become seriously ill, and in some cases died, no vaping product should be used. State health officials will continue to work closely with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration to determine the cause of deaths and illnesses in Oregon and across the nation.

New Wood Track, Wilsonville High Softball Lighting Completed With 2014 Bond Funding
Every day, hundreds of West Linn-Wilsonville students, families, and community members enjoy school facilities across the school district. From athletic fields to gymnasiums, sports facilities are particularly popular this time of year. Many of those facilities received exciting upgrades this summer and fall, with the recent completion of a new track at Wood Middle School and new state-of-the-art softball field lighting at Wilsonville High School.
The new lighting at Wilsonville High School was installed this fall and increases equity for the softball program, going alongside the school’s turf field to ensure safe play at all times of the year. A district priority this school year, the new lights were installed in time for the coming softball season.
“We’re very excited about the installation of new lights at our softball field this school year and are incredibly thankful for our generous community,” said Principal Kelly Schmidt. “Our student-athletes work extremely hard throughout the year, and this addition to our school will be a great boost going into another season.”
The new track surface at Wood Middle School, meanwhile, was completed this summer and painted this fall. The new track surface complements the synthetic turf playfield, which was completed last summer. Both the track and field are frequently utilized, providing year-round value for youth sports, students, families, and the entire community. The new surfaces will ensure the athletic facility will be viable for years to come.
“I want to say thank you to our community on behalf of our staff and students,” said Wood Principal Mike Strande. “The new track will be a great addition to our school for years to come.”
Both projects were completed using funds from the 2014 Capital Bond. The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is able to provide students, families, and the entire community with top-flight facilities and athletic fields thanks to the tremendous generosity of the West Linn-Wilsonville community. Thank you for your incredible support! To learn more about projects completed under the 2014 Capital Bond, or to learn about the upcoming 2019 Capital Bond, visit the district website.
