Marching Band and Identity Banner students travel to the UK!

The VPA's largest trip to the United Kingdom yet! 78 students from the Plymouth Marching Band and the Identity Banner project are in Plymouth, UK connecting with our friends across the pond! The group spent a day touring London and then stopped at Stonehenge before arriving in Plymouth. The band has been on BBC radio and rehearsed with music students from the Lipton Academy School.

The Identity Banner students spent a day at Plymouth College of Art with our friends Norman and Ellie. They displayed the banners that they have been diligently working on and learned all types of new art skills! The group has a busy, fun-filled week ahead. Students will arrive back home on Sunday.

Community Connections

Students at PCIS compete annually in the First LEGO League competition. The theme of this competition changes each year, but always includes a Robot Game and Innovation Project. This year's theme is called City Shaper.

From the First LEGO League competition website, City Shaper is described as: "More than ever, we must come together to innovate and solve problems. In FIRST, you are part of a thriving community brimming with inspiration, creativity, and hope for a stronger, more sustainable future—one that’s built better together. You have the power to help the cities, towns, and places you call home reach new heights. With the support of the FIRST community, this is your opportunity to lead our future forward—and up."

So, in preparing for the Innovation Project component of this competition, Mrs. Martin and Ms. Silzer invited Chief Botieri to come and speak about potential parking problems Plymouth expects with each of the upcoming 2020 celebrations. Our students are grateful for having received this insight from a community expert. Good luck to our competing students and thank you Chief Botieri!

Three Cheers for the Bright Green and Gold

For the past five school days, PSMS has been celebrating Spirit Week as they gear up for their 20th annual Pep Rally! It started with a beach party theme, moved on to sports teams, and was followed by VSCO day. For the uninitiated, a VSCO girl wears Crocs or Birkenstocks, has a messy bun, has a scrunchie collection, and carries a hydro flask. Color Wars was followed by everyone's favorite - Pajama Day! Tuesday was the big event - PEP RALLY! The school was awash with green and gold, and excitement was running high. What a great send-off for our Thanksgiving break.
