Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
March 2, 2018
Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
As I type, rain is blowing sideways against the windows of my office and snow flutters about in the trees; welcome to March! Our school was a hive of activity this week. Here is a brief synopsis of what occurred.
Both the Junior High and High School culminated our celebration of Black History Month with assemblies. With the help of our video art design students, one of our teachers - Ms. Lewis - was able to share the story of her grandfather, a former Tuskegee Airman, with our students. You can see the video below. This was a personal look into the life of a man who served his country with honor and distinction.
Students of the Month were chosen for grades 6 - 12. The students who were recognized for being outstanding were:
Payton Shute - 6
Zorah Baraka - 6
Ryann Storms - 7
Cristofer Martinez -7
Maggie McCumber - 8
Benjamin Cotton - 8
Olivia Dixon - 9
Joseph Guy - 10
Tyreek Davis - 11
Jason Alicea - 12
Congratulations to each of them for their hard work and consistency!
Grades 6 and 9 came together for their monthly Townhall meetings. Among other topics, students were informed about a new event here at Woodbury - White and Gold Night. The entire school, both students and adults, have been divided into our school colors -- the White Team and the Gold Team. Students and adults with last names between A - K are on the White Team and those with last names starting with L - Z are on the Gold Team. These teams will compete in a series of friendly competitions during March, color-wars style. The competition will conclude with White and Gold Night on Friday, March 23 where a overall champion will be crowned. We are hopeful this event will grow into a long-standing tradition,
Lastly, if you are reading this on Saturday morning, our high school teams will have played six playoff basketball games this week! Both our girls and boys teams enter the semi-finals in the South Jersey Group 1 tournament. Our players, their parents, our fans, and especially our student body have provided them with tremendous support throughout these playoff runs. We wish them luck tonight.
Go Thundering Herd!!

Student Voice
Mrs. Crowley shared this about her Spanish 1 classes:
Part of the culture we learn in Chapter 2 is related to the ways that different schools operate in the Spanish-speaking world and beyond. I asked students to think about three things that they would like to see change or improve in our school, research peer-reviewed evidence to support their suggestions, and then share it with their administrators. Dr. Vivadelli and Mr. Dobbins took time out of their busy schedules to read or listen to students’ projects and then come to actually talk to them face to face. Students shared their thoughts and concerns, talked about them with our principals, and mutually we brainstormed some solutions. I think this was something special that showed how our school values student voice. This was a great way for my students to step into leadership roles and advocate for changes with those who make decisions.
