FISD Early Childhood School
Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
What a wonderful week we have had with your sweet children! It has been so wonderful spending time in many classrooms this week. We welcomed some sweet new friends in our SLC classrooms and one little cutie gives the best hugs! In PPCD, they've read about a dinosaur with a cold and students are seeing how their drawings hold meaning to share with another person. In Pre-K, one class was writing recipes for how to bake cookies. Today they put their recipe to the test and their final product was pretty yummy!
This is the time of year that many of our second language learners are really starting to demonstrate significant progress. There are several stages of acquiring a second language. The third stage is speech emergence. This basically means they really start talking in that new language! We can definitely see them hitting this stage as the chatter in many of our Pre-K classrooms has taken off! It's exciting to see them reach the point where they are comfortable and feel safe trying out English with their friends!
Hopefully this weekend brings much needed rest for many that are trying to recover from illness. We hope to see everyone back and feeling great next week!

ECS FOOD DRIVE COMING SOON!
Our annual Food Drive begins February 12th and goes through the 23rd. We hope you will consider participating by sending non-perishable items to school with your child. We will collect those in each room! More details and suggestions on what to send are down below and will be coming from your child's teacher. These donations go to our local Frisco Food Pantry to help feed families in need that live in our very own community.
I Want to Hear From YOU!
Many of you have posted comments, suggestions or questions on my Parent Padlet. Thank you! It is one of the ways for me to stay connected with you and allows other parents to see your questions. You never know when someone else is wondering the same thing. The cool thing is that it is completely anonymous! So post away and I will be sure to respond.
Just click on this link and you're on your way!

Dear ECS Parents & Guardians:
Flu activity in Collin County remains widespread and increasing. Please familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of the flu and keep your child home if they exhibit them and seek medical treatment as early as possible.
Absences due to illness will be excused as long as appropriate documentation is received. An email from a parent may excuse an absence for up to 4 days. After the 4th day, the parent shall provide a note from a physician.
Please be mindful of FISD policy that students may not attend school if they have a fever (100.0 or higher) are vomiting or have diarrhea and cannot come back until the symptoms are gone a full 24 hours without medication. This flu season has not only been widespread, but symptoms have also been more severe . Please keep your child home when they are ill to allow their body a full recovery and to prevent spreading these infections while at school. We care about your health and the health of everyone around us, students and staff alike.
We wish you and your family a full recovery if you or your children have been out ill!
The Counselor's Corner
When I was growing up, we would take road trips to my grandparent’s house and to the beach. Now the memories of getting to our destination seem pretty humorous, but not then. During our road trips and even trips to the grocery store meant sitting in the back seat between my two siblings. We tortured each other with games of “punch buggy” and finding all sorts of ways to annoy each other. Oh yes, the lovely memories of sibling rivalry.
I know it’s not fun as a parent to deal with the bickering & whining, but it’s a necessary part of life. Sibling rivalry builds individuality and skills like cooperating, sharing, negotiating, and standing up for self & others. Here are some tips to help you get through it:
· Are there underlying causes? Sleepy? Hungry? Bored?
· Point out the positives: how the child problem solves, stands up for self, teamwork
· You can set limits for safety (hitting, screaming, throwing)
· Avoid comparisons
· Avoid taking sides
· Encourage cooperation
