Wednesday Folders and Parent Connect
Every Wednesday your student should be bringing home a Wednesday Folder containing graded work, announcements, and additional information. Please be sure to look at the items in the Wednesday folders with your child. We also have Parent Connect to give parents information about grades. Many parents sign up for grade notifications to help them monitor how their child is doing at school. Please see directions below:

Transportation Change Procedure Reminder:
We encourage independence here at Lago Vista Intermediate School, and encourage your student to know how he/she is supposed to get home at the end of the school day. However, if your student's mode of transportation is changing, i.e. from car to bus or bus to car, our staff needs to be made aware of that change.
To ensure accurate transportation information, all transportation changes need to be made through Mrs. Bell in the front office. Please do not send transportation changes directly to your student's teacher or on a paper note with your student.
For your convenience, Mrs. Bell has 3 ways to get her the information we need to ensure your student's safe and accurate transportation home:
Text: 512-337-2061 (texting only, no voice calls)
Email: kristina_bell@lagovista.txed.net

What's going on in Mrs. Summers' Class
Reading in the resource room is off to a great start as well. We are beginning to dig into our different genre’s and themes of literature, and are starting with the ever entertaining fiction novels. 5th grade is reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and 4th grade is getting ready to read “A Fine, Fine School” which is a short Journey’s curriculum selection. Our first novel in 4th grade will be The Girl Who Hung the Moon by Kelly Barnhill, and I know the students will love it. I look forward to their many connections to the main character. After two other fiction selections, we will move into the non-fiction genre but will continue to loop back to fiction throughout the year. We will begin a poetry unit prior to the holiday break, and hopefully have a poetry slam. All of this while learning about ways to dig deeper into our reading, make inferences, analyze characters, summarize, draw conclusions, compare and contrast, strengthen vocabulary and grammar and continue to broaden our love and interest of reading.

Box Top Campaign
It's that time again! Although we collect them all year long, the submission is only allowed once a semester. Let's get as many Box Tops into your teachers for the fall submission deadline. We need to have them all collected and counted by October 23rd! The homeroom, in each grade level, with the highest number of box-tops collected will get a prize for each student to take home with them. Winning classes will be announced in the October 27th Newsletter. Also, the class (in each grade level) that raises the most box tops will receive a portion of the total amount raised back to their homeroom teacher for supplemental supply purchases.
