HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 1 - 24 July 2020
FROM GEORDIE
Welcome back to Term 3 everyone!
We have had a really smooth and enjoyable start to the week here at Holy Rosary and it has been fantastic to see so many happy faces rolling into school in the morning. I have loved to hear the students stories of trips up to Exmouth and Warra Station, mountain biking through the muddy trails in Dunsborough and Margaret River, playdates, trips to the zoo, footy and netball competitions starting up and lots of quality time with family. I had a really good chat with Harlen in Year 3 on Wednesday and he showed me some of the snaps from his trip. Looks like they had a ball! I think our community is refreshed and ready to get stuck into an exciting term!
As many of you would know, the state government postponed the Stage 5 restrictions until the tentative date of1st of August. This has meant we are still waiting for confirmation that assemblies and other larger gatherings can go ahead. Because of this, our first assembly that was previously scheduled for Friday next week will be postponed to Friday 7th August in the hope we may be able to have an audience. This is also our St Dominic's Day celebration and mini-fete. Look out for more info next week. As always safety comes first and we will continue to work as a staff and with the P&F to plan to give our students as many opportunities as possible for the remainder of the year
On that note I would like to thank Mr Flexman and Ms Catherall for their hard work organising the Interschool Cross Country Carnival. Our normal event was cancelled this year so we have made the decision to enter the WA Primary Championships instead. Our runners will be doing their best to get ready over the coming weeks as it will be strong competition and longer distances. We wish them all the best! Mr Flexman has also pushed and pushed for our Winter Sports Carnival to go ahead for our senior students and we now have confirmation that this will go ahead on 20th August with students participating in footy, netball and soccer. We will let you know of the finer details closer to the time as at this stage we are unsure of the COVID rules that will be in place.
This term there is an opportunity for our Year 4 - 6 students to challenge themselves and participate in the ICAS online testing in English, Maths and Science. Details of how to register have been sent out on SeeSaw and the testing will be conducted here at school. Registrations close this Sunday 26th of July.
This term we welcome two new staff members to our team. Miss Giulia Pasquale will be teaching our Year 2C class while Mr Mike Thacker will be supporting Ms Norman in Year 1. If you see them around the school (you can’t miss Mike as he is taller than me!) please make them welcome. Both are highly enthusiastic and dedicated educators and we are all looking forward to working with them this year.
In regards to the Stage 11 building project I am happy to report that we have now engaged a builder and that they are preparing to start the build as we speak! We are now a couple of months behind where we would have liked, however, with any big project such as this (Especially in the midst of a pandemic) there are going to complications, however, this is an exciting milestone for the build and my priority is to have an excellent finished product that we will have for many years to come.
Finally, it has been really nice catching up with some of you before and after school for a chat. I have had a really great holiday with my family and close friends and I am really excited about the possibilities this term. If you haven’t had the opportunity to get down to Denmark I highly recommend it. Amazingly beautiful place with less crowds and some of the best beaches going around!

LIBRARY NEWS
Next week is the Scholastic Book Fair in the library. The Arctic Adventure themed Fair is lots of fun, gives our Library Monitors some leadership opportunities and provides lots of FREE new books (and funds) for our school library.
Due to Covid and social distancing restrictions, all hands will need to be sanitised on entry and we ask that different year groups attend on different days to spread out the crowds and reduce time queueing outside.
Year 1-2 parents are asked to attend on Wednesday
Year 3-4 parents on Thursday
Year 5-6 parents on Friday morning.
K-PP parents can attend when convenient.
Book Fair opening times are before school Wed, Thurs and Fri, lunchtimes Weds and Thurs and after school Wed and Thurs. Please note the Book Fair will no longer be open at lunchtime or after school on Friday.
This week, the children brought home a Brochure and Book Mark. Next Wednesday, classes are invited to visit the fair in school time to complete their wish list to bring home. The brochure has online payment information on the back which you can then return with your child on Thursday.
Please ensure the receipt number and payment amount is clearly noted.
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help. I am still looking for helpers before and after school on Wednesday, and Thursday lunchtime . If you are able to assist please contact me via the front office or complete the roster in front of the library.
Thank you so much for your support and patience with all the changes.
See you next week!
