A Note from Mr. Hofer
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It's hard for me to believe we are down to 15 days of school left for the 2020-2021 school year. In some ways it has seemed like we are just starting to get into a routine but in some ways it feels like we are finishing a marathon. Through all of the challenges we have all faced the last 13 months during the pandemic, I believe we have ALL learned a great deal that will make us better in the future. We could have not had such a great year without your support. There have been many times we have had to lean on each other through the pivots, pauses, changing learning models, IDPH guidance changes, etc. Your support is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Looking to next year I have many questions that I am hoping will be answered sooner rather than later. We are anxiously awaiting guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education about regulations for the 2021-2022 school year. Our Geneseo Board of Education plans to have students in-person for full days 5 days a week starting in August. As plans for the fall become more clear, they will be communicated to you.
Thanks again for all your support this year. I wish you and your family a wonderful May and a great summer!
Take care,
Brian Hofer
Southwest Principal
Southwest Chromebook Collection
**Calling all families who have been borrowing a Geneseo School District Chromebook!!
Chromebook collection will be taking place from May 17th-21st. Please bring the Chromebook and charger to the office during school hours (7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). Our preferred method is for an adult to bring it back to Southwest but we understand that may not be possible so having students bring it back to school is allowed as well.
Southwest Math Challenge- REMINDER!!!
The Southwest Staff would like to issue a Math Challenge for each student to spend one hour a week outside of school working on math skills. Additional practice for one hour a week on top of the normal Math instruction will help your child improve their mental math and allow them to be better prepared for the next grade level. The programs below help struggling learners catch up and enrich students who are ahead. Each month fun incentives will be given to celebrate the hard work of those who have accomplished their goal. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
Incentives:
1st Successful Month: Teacher Provided Incentive
2nd Successful Month: Donut from Geneseo Donut Shop
3rd Successful Month: An extra 30 minute recess
4th Successful Month: Pizza Party
If 75% of Southwest successfully completes their Math goal in 3 of the 4 months, Southwest will conduct a special vote to determine which color to dye Mr. Hofer’s hair.
