News and Notes From the Principal
Dear, Mustang Families -
I hope the message finds you all happy and well. We had another great week at Maplewood Middle School. Here are some items I want to make sure you are aware of as we begin a new week.
Four Weeks in the Books: All of a sudden, we are four weeks into the school year, which means we are only two weeks away from mid-term. Now is a great time to sit down with your child, check their grades in Campus Parent, and talk to them about how the school year is starting. If you feel like they need additional support, please reach out to the school.
Morning Bus Route Time Change: All middle school bus routes will begin picking students up five minutes earlier on Monday, October 4th. We will send out additional reminders next week.
Laptops and Chargers Everyday: Please help your child get in the habit of bringing their laptop and charger to school every day. They will not need it in every class, but they will need it every day. Thanks for your help!
MAP Tests on Monday and Tuesday: Students will be taking the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test on Monday and Tuesday of this week in their Advisory class. Monday will be the reading test, and Tuesday will be the math test. The assessments are adaptive tests that estimate a student’s current instructional level and measure academic growth throughout the school year and from year to year. ISD 622 students in grades 6-9 take the reading and math MAP Growth assessments three times each year (fall, winter, and spring). Information from these tests helps teachers determine what students already know and what they are ready to learn next so that classroom instruction can be targeted to students’ needs. Please encourage your child to try their hardest, as this is essential information that will allow us to better support our students. Also, please make sure your child brings their fully charged laptop on Monday and Tuesday.
We are here to help. Please reach out to the school at 651-748-6500 if you have any questions or need help with something.
Thanks,
Eric Mjolsness
Principal

Travel Opportunity
Dear Parents and Guardians,
You and your student are invited to join us on an upcoming educational tour. I’m pleased to announce that we will be traveling to London, Paris, Rome, Pompeii, and Capri in June of 2022.
While I fully recognize that we are still in the midst of very uncertain times, I am a firm believer in maintaining hope and excitement for the future and all the adventures yet to come when our world opens up again. I want to provide students with this same hope, which is why I can’t wait to tell you more.
There is incredible growth that comes with seeing the world, exploring new places and experiencing new cultures - and I’m excited to bring that opportunity to your family and our community.
