Friday Message from Dr. Glaze
On Wednesday, Gov. Holcomb issued a new executive order, which included updates to the state’s guidance on quarantines. While this order does not impact our current protocols, we will continue to review our plan and make any adjustments based on local data and what makes the most sense for our students and staff.
Our mitigation measures and safety protocols as included in our Reopening Plan were developed using guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Indiana State Department of Health, and our local healthcare partners. We also closely monitor our in house numbers and keep a close watch on the health trends taking place in our buildings and district. Our weekly numbers will be posted on our corporation website www.tcsc.k12.in.us, using our new COVID-19 Dashboard. These numbers will be updated every Monday as another measure of transparency for you, our blue nation!
Our priority to provide the best learning environment for students while keeping everyone safe and in school has never wavered. We know that kids learn best, perform better, and have greater outcomes when they are in school. Moreover, being in school is critical to their overall mental health and well-being. As educators, we are not experts on the COVID-19 virus or its variants. This is why we work in collaboration with local and state medical and health experts and, as a district, rely on their recommendations and guidance. We have and will continue to follow the Governor’s current guidance.
Keeping kids in school will take a combined effort from parents, students, teachers, and school administrators. The good news is that we already have the tools needed to get there. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the many prevention strategies available on and off school grounds.
Tuesday is the first of four (9/7, 11/3, 2/22, 4/15) scheduled E-Learning days built into this year’s calendar. For students, these E-Learning days serve as a continuation of the previous day’s instruction, provide continuity to the current course of study, and help prepare them for unplanned school closures that may arise due to weather or other events in the future.
For staff, these days provide an opportunity to help our staff work on our corporation strategic plan goal for student achievement, by creating a scope and sequence for their content area and to provide the community with an inside look at what students in our schools are expected to learn throughout the year. Over the course of these 4 E-Learning days, staff will create a building-level curriculum map template, study how to unpack and prioritize standards, learn strategies for mapping their curriculum, and finally put together a scope and sequence that is informative and accessible to all stakeholders: students, parents, and the community.
Our marching band’s final run of their history-making season with Phoenix Rising will take place during halftime at tonight’s home football game vs. the Twin Lakes, Indians. Best of luck to all the blue devil teams as they compete tonight and over the weekend. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. #TiptonPride
