Gilbert Public Schools Family Newsletter - April 24, 2020
Dear GPS Parents and Families,
Friends, we have now completed 4 weeks of remote learning and I couldn't be prouder of our entire community. We hope that you are doing well and finding a balance in your home. Remember that our teachers and administrators are here for you and your student(s), and you can reach out to them with any questions or concerns.
As we move closer to May, we know that graduation is a key issue for many of our families, and of course our seniors. Please be assured that we are looking at every possibility and are committed to making a decision that prioritizes the health and safety of our students and families. Please expect communication regarding graduation very soon, and we thank you for your patience.
This week's newsletter includes some important updates, also please check out voting for the Best of Gilbert 2020, and resource links for you and your family.
Thank you for all you are doing for your children! We appreciate you and your family and hope everyone is healthy and safe. Please know, we are here for whatever you may need.
Sincerely,
Shane McCord, Ed. D.

GEF Foundation - Fundraising for GPS Families in Need
Please help donate today to GEF’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund. The Gilbert Education Foundation is not only about innovation grants, scholarships and enrichment, but also about helping our families. GEF’s S.H.A.N.E. Program provides emergency funding to those families in need. Sharing Helping And Nurturing Everyone = S.H.A.N.E.
This fund will be used for those in our GPS community with the most urgent needs. Needs such as housing, utilities, food, medical, transportation, remote learning supplies, and more. We will run this campaign through May 5, which is global “Giving Tuesday.” Please consider donating locally and share with your family and friends to help us raise money.

Virtual Winners
Gilbert High's Future Farmers of America (FFA) members won at the first Maricopa County Fair Virtual Show. Gabe Neff (9th Grade) exhibited the Champion Southdown Lamb and Kira Schiermeyer (12th Grade, pictured) exhibited the Reserve Champion Southdown lamb.
Gabe's lamb was bred and born from his own flock. He has also been recognized as one of the top 4 finalists in the State FFA Star Greenhand Award. Kira purchased her lamb and raised it starting in August. She will pursue a degree in Animal Science to become a veterinarian and will be receiving the State FFA Degree in June, the highest level of accomplishment a member can receive from the State FFA.
Exhibitors had to video their animal and show its best traits in a 60-second video for the virtual show which included exhibitors from around Maricopa County. Learn more about our Career and Technical Education programs - www.gilbertschools.net/cte
