PTA Family Fun Night
We are looking for donations for a pop ring toss game. If you are willing and able, we will be collecting 2 liter bottles of pop for this game. These can be dropped off in the office leading up to the event.
Middle School Information for 6th Families
In preparation for your student starting at Forest Lake Area Middle School in the 2022-2023 school year, 6th graders complete a number of tasks each spring. Included within those tasks are FAST tests that students take each fall, winter, and spring and the statewide MCA tests that take place each April. This letter is to inform you that your student will also be testing/working with their 6th grade teacher for placement in the following courses:
MATH
All 6th grade students will be taking the 7th Grade Math Readiness test. This test is timed and will be completed via a Google Form in class. Students who score above a 65% will be eligible to take the Algebra Readiness test. Both tests are timed and will be scored by middle school Math teachers.
For "Single Acceleration" (inclusion in Algebra 8 with other single accelerated 7th graders and 8th graders) a score of at least 70% on the Algebraic Readiness test is needed.
To qualify for "Double Acceleration" (inclusion in a 7th grade only Alg 1 course) a student must score 85% or better on both tests.
Other factors that will be considered in making this placement decision include:
MCA Mathematics scores from previous four years
FAST Math scores from previous two years
Teacher recommendation
Helpful information:
Students may retake the test through the end of July by making an appointment with Mary Beth Johnson at 651-982-3004
All classes address all Math standards at that level, are taught by highly skilled teachers, and offer a rigorous academic experience.
ENGLISH
For placement in Advanced English, the following criteria will factor into the decision:
MCA Reading scores from previous four years
FAST Reading scores from previous two years
Teacher evaluation of student writing scores from their 6th grade year
Teacher recommendation
Helpful information:
All English classes address all English Language Arts standards, are taught by highly skilled teachers, and offer a rigorous academic experience.
Placement or non-placement DOES NOT impact future acceleration opportunities at Forest Lake Area Middle School or the Forest Lake Area High School.

STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES
- We will have new cones out to help with flow of traffic.
- If you have students at both Forest View and Forest Lake Elementary, you can pick students up at the Forest View location. You do not need to come through both lines.
- The exit for drop off and pick up time is different and will hopefully help with the congested 5-way stop at the intersection of 4th street and 4th avenue.
- If you have friends, family or neighbors planning to drop off or pick up, please share these procedures with them as they may not be familiar with our school.
- Please refer to map below for updated procedures.
