A Word from your Principal
Dear Affton Family!
Welcome back after our MLK break. I know this was a day off of school and work but it is meant as a break for us to reflect on how we can be of service to our neighbors. I feel fortunate to have been able to spend my day working on a service project for AHS. While we are a long way from our annual day of service in Affton we will have an opportunity at the high school in late February to participate in a school wide service project. I spent the day working through several of our options and am excited to share with the planning committee. I’m looking forward to seeing what this turns into as the teachers and students get to add in their ideas!
It doesn’t seem right to already be thinking of next year but we need to do just that when it comes to your student’s schedule. On Thursday there will be class meetings where your students will meet with the counselors to prime them in their thinking towards creating their course schedules for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition to the whole class meetings each student will meet individually with his/her counselor to officially request courses. The scheduling meetings are as follows:
Juniors: Jan 27-31
Sophomores: Feb 3-7
Freshman: Feb 10-14
If you have any questions about your student please reach out to the appropriate counselor for support.
Mrs. Bohn last names A-G
Mrs. Mayfield last names H-N
Ms. Cervenka last names O-Z
Mrs. Giunta college and career counselor
And finally I wanted to compliment the students in the significant improvements on getting into class on time. Everyone who is a regular visitor to the school has commented on the changes. I know it seems at times silly to have the kids contact home for every tardy, but it has been a clear motivator for them. As of two weeks into our new procedure we are still in need of some improvement on getting to school before 7:30 but most of the rest of the day is going well. I appreciate all of you working with those of us that are in the building to get this turned around. Without you as a partner we wouldn’t be making significant improvements like this!
Have a great week!
