February 4, 2022
Hello everyone,
We are off and into the second half of the year. Everyone has adjusted well to the schedule changes.
As we continue forward there are different things we are all working on. I appreciate our staff and children for using this first week of the new quarter as a time to learn from the past and take steps forward.
Our Green team is doing great work helping us to reduce waste. Please send your child with a refillable water bottle.
Our Free Market is full of items from various donations and our partnership with the Salvation Army. The graphic below links to the webpage. Reach out if you need anything!

DATES TO REMEMBER 2021-2022--this links the calendar that is regularly updated
Drop off and Pick Up
The drop off loop for children coming to school by car is off of Highland Park. For the safety of the children it is important that children are dropped off and picked up in the parent loop.
To help with traffic flow when leaving JW Leary all cars are directed to turn right.
During busy times drop off is at the orange cone. Cars can pull up and park by the orange cone in the afternoon,
Parent pick up is at the same location.
Please note-effective 1/18 village officials have instituted no parking between Highland Park and Garvin Avenue.
WEB Academic Follow Up
The purpose of this follow up was to talk about the importance of focus in studying and getting good grades. Students were instructed to stare at a partner for 1 minute without laughing, smiling or looking away. They then were asked questions about if this was difficult and if it was hard to focus. Next, WEB
Leaders handed students a worksheet with a task they had to complete while loud music was playing. Students discussed how they did on the task and if the music distracted them. Finally, students were given a similar task to complete without any distractions while then talking about the differences between the environments during both tasks and if that impacted how successful they were on the tasks.
Leaders wrapped up the follow up by reminding students that not everyone studies the same way and we all need to find the way that is best for us to study to get the best results!
Please Bring a Refillable Water Bottle
The water bottles should have their names on them.
This will help reduce waste and will give kids access to water in classrooms.
Positivity Project Trait of next Week is Humility
Developing humility is associated with positive
developmental outcomes in individuals. It allows a person
to honestly reflect on their abilities and acknowledge how
and where they can improve. Humility opens them up to
new ideas, advice, and (consequently) abilities that pride,
arrogance, or pretentiousness often block. Therefore,
humility makes them desired members of a team.
All of the slide presentations are available in our Resources Library and you can click here for a 1-page overview.

Tuesday Hannah from College and Career For Every Student (CFES) provided an orientation to tutors. The orientation focused on goal setting, various pathways to accomplish tasks (agility/perseverance), and networking/how to foster relationships.
Everyone learned some best practices for tutoring while brushing up on essential skills.

JW Leary December Students of the Month
Teachers and staff noted that Jace is a stellar student. He is responsible, respectful, and eager to help anyone in need. A teacher shared: I was recently out of school and received an outstanding report regarding Jace. He stepped up and helped everybody in the class with a lesson some students were struggling with. He was kind and patient and showed his peers new ways of learning.
CFES Brilliant Pathways Programming
We are grateful to provide this opportunity to families.
Things happening in classrooms
Something is concerning-
If people see/hear something, say something.
The below form which is also linked on our website is one way to do that.
All concerns expressed to the school are thoroughly investigated and appropriate action is taken. We cannot do something if we do not know about it. It is a service to the entire community when items are shared.
We are all in this together and we all have the same goal. Thank you for your support!
Breakfast/Lunch
Doors open at 7:15 am for children getting breakfast.
Children do need their Schoolbucks account number to get breakfast and lunch.
This links to the current breakfast/lunch menu!
A big thank you to our amazing cafeteria staff who helps this to be possible!
