April 2018
Happy Easter and Passover!
This is a most joyous time of year for Christians celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Our Jewish brothers and sisters celebrate and remember the liberation from slavery through the celebration of Passover. Both of these holy times recognize and celebrate God's love for humanity. It's easy to forget that Easter is not one day but a season, lasting until Pentecost on May 20th. This is a time to live with joy, faith, hope and love.
These holy days call us to recommit ourselves to liberation, love and solidarity. The liberation of the Jewish people and the resurrection of Jesus demonstrate God's commitment and desire for us.
We must also realize that many of our brothers and sisters continue to live in the shadow of the cross or under the systems of oppression. Over the last couple of weeks Loyola has been honored to host Bryan Stevenson, Sr. Helen Prejean Paul Hawken and the MLK 50th teach-in. These speakers and events have illuminated some the injustices experienced by people of color, the environment and those living in poverty.
In these holy days let us seek to live holy lives which imitate God's radical love, demonstrating a solidarity with our brothers and sisters (especially the marginalized and vulnerable) work towards building a beloved community and profess hope in times of despair.
Peace & blessings,
Seán Bray

THINK | PRAY | ACT
THINK
How does this apply to you and our community as a whole? How are you touched by gun violence and by gun legislation?
What can we do as a community to support these students?
PRAY
I am sad over the loss of life,
tired of excuses for the loss of life,
and angry that we are paralyzed by the loss of life.
So
Turn my sadness into compassion.
Turn my tiredness into advocacy.
Turn my paralysis into the freedom to act.
Help me
to be compassionate,
to advocate
and to act.
