From the Principal, Cindy Dziadosz
It's Back to School time again! Included with this note is important information about our school and the upcoming school year. More detailed information in the parent/student handbook may be found on the school website.
I am excited to begin the new school year and look forward to working with all of the wonderful LaCygne Elementary students, staff, and families. We will host a "Meet the Teacher Night" on Wednesday, August 15th from 5:30-7:00 PM to allow students the opportunity to meet their teacher and drop off their school supplies prior to the first day. School begins at 8:10 AM on Thursday, August 16th for all students in grades PK-5. We will also host a "Back to School" night on Thursday August 30th from 5:30-7:00 PM where teachers will give formal presentation on the curriculum and their classrooms. Look for more detailed information to come soon!
A walk through our building will reveal the components of our successful team. The “TEAM” includes a caring dedicated staff that has high expectations for themselves and their students, supportive parents and dedicated students. The quality of relationships that exist between home and school adds to the uniqueness and success of LaCygne Elementary.
Teachers and staff will be embracing their inner "pirate" this year as they find ways to incorporate passion and enthusiasm in their instruction. They will also continue to utilize cooperative learning activities to assist our students in developing good skills in working with others.
Our ultimate goal of providing a solid education which focuses on student growth is achieved through high expectations for quality teaching and student achievement. We are committed to providing a safe, positive learning environment to ensure academic success and solid character development.
Our teachers are always willing to communicate and be of help to you and your child. Please feel free to contact them by phone or their school email address. If you have a question or concern I urge you to communicate with the teacher first as they can best share information directly about your child.
We invite you to tour our district and school website, or follow us on Facebook and become familiar with our wonderful school. If I can be of assistance in any way please stop by or give me a call at 913-757-4417.

Arrival and Dismissal
School Dismisses at 3:30 PM. Students are dismissed in groups to assist in keeping students safe and more easily accounted for. Walkers and bike riders are dismissed first, car riders in the drive through lane are dismissed next and then those whose parents have parked in the south lot are dismissed. Once our school year is under way our dismissal process typically takes 3-5 minutes. Thank you in advance in realizing that 3-5 minutes is a small amount of time to assist us in keeping a child safe. Thank you for also knowing that what is most convenient for adults is not always the safest for all students.
If you plan to make changes to your child's dismissal routine please notify the school office (913-757-4417 Ext 7701) by phone or note prior to 3:00 PM. Although our students are very responsible we need to hear from you the parent, if there is a change in the way they will be going home. As we are often aware, sometimes children can get confused or forgetful. We ask that you notify the office for your child's safety and to help us insure we are helping them to get home in the manner that is their parents desire.
Please be advised that our state has a compulsory attendance law. The law is KSA 72-1113. The Kansas law states that students are truant when they have 3 consecutive unexcused absences, or 5 unexcused absences in a semester or 7 unexcused absences in a school year. When our student’s reach this number of absences, I am obligated by law to report the student’s name to the Linn District Attorney here and Linn county Division of Child and Family Services as truancy.
Tardies
Students arriving from 8:10 a.m.-9:45 will be counted tardy. Excessive tardies are unacceptable. Ten tardies
will equal a half day absence.
HALF DAY: If the student arrives after 9:45 or leaves before 2:15 it will be counted as a half day absent.
FULL DAY ABSENCE: If a student arrives after 2:15 they will be counted absent for the full day.
Breakfast and Lunches
Please pay for your child's meals in the office. Please label your check or money with your child's name. Meals must be paid for in advance. Your child will be notified before he or she runs out of paid meals or milks.
Once a student reaches a negative balance of $15.00, they will be served an alternative meal until such time as the
debt is paid or for a maximum of 10 days, after which the student will need to provide their own meals. No negative balances
will be allowed after May 1st of any year.
