The Transition From Speech to Writing
Not long after mankind developed speech we started communicating with non verbal language.
One of the first examples of non verbal communication is cave painting. These may have been simple pictures but they easily conveyed simple stories.
Refinements of Paintings
After drawings we had pictograms, which are symbols that have a specific meaning. We still use some today, an example is the hospital symbol or the pedestrian crossing sign.
The Divide
The Written world developed very differently in European and Asian counrties. In European languages the written word was developed as string of letters that form meanings while Asian countries put pictograms together to form words.
