Moving up to Middle School
Online Transition for Upcoming 6th graders & parents
If you missed the transition meeting at LMS May 4th 2023 @
You got This
Address Fears – Listen to your child’s concerns and fears. Talk about your own fears you had at their age and how you handled it.
Focus on the Positives – New friends, teachers, and new opportunities. (Sports, Art, Band, Drama/Chorus, Clubs, Gifted Classes)
Attend School Events – Take advantage of orientations, many include tours of the building. (Check out the website to be familiar with the school as much as you can.)
Reach Out for Support – If your student is experiencing high levels of anxiety about the upcoming transition, use all your available resources such as books, the internet, family, friends, school counselors, and teachers.
Stay Connected – Stay connected to your child, his/her friends, and the school.
The best-case scenario would be that each rising 6th grader feels prepared for middle school. This transition guide was created to enhance students’ comfort level with this change by exposing them to some of the aspects of Lakeview Middle School.

House System
In combination with our positive rewards behaviour program, LMS has a House System where each student belongs to a specific group.
Students work to earn points for their House in order to win incentives on a weekly and quarterly basis. Points are awarded through the PBIS app and known as ‘Warrior Ones’. Individual student recognitions among houses are highlighted and rewarded.
The black house are known as "The Givers." They care deeply about lifting others up, but they also maintain a fiercely competitive spirit and pride. Mr. Chastain's house, Altruismo members can be heard throughout the halls doing their call and response of "ATRU - ISMO!" A friendly rival of Reveur, Altruismo always finished every 9 weeks strong, making the upcoming school year feel like it is going to be Altruismo's year.
The red house, whose name means "Friendship." A group of individuals that are quiet but powerful, they are known most for their kindness of heart. The house of our Principal, Mr. Phillips, Frenemy to Isibindi, and the house whose hand symbol (two crossed arms) is the most visible throughout the school. Ask them and they will tell you, they are the house to beat.
The green house, whose name means "Courage." While new students might be quiet or shy at first, the longer that they are in the House, the more they begin to display the characteristics of strength and bravery. The current house champions, and record holder for number of times they have won the school tomahawk.
The blue house is known as "The Dreamers." The members who fill this group are students filled with freedom and wild abandon who recognize their dreams and will let nothing stand in the way of achieving them. Reveur was the closest to beating Isibindi last year and found the golden tomahawk more times than any other house. Reveur's symbol of the unicorn can be seen throughout the halls adorning their teacher's doors.
