Post War America
Jacob Harris Per 6
The end of the war came along with the end of the Great Depression. With a revitalized economy, Americans set about to recover the consumerist lifestyles of pre-war America. Unlike before, however, the family unit became increasingly important in American society. Patriotism increased to drastic new heights in response to the threat of communism, resulting not only in a strengthening of "American values" in culture and society, but also in fear and mistrust directed at suspected soviet spies. Many Americans signed up with the ever-growing military to show support for their country and to attempt to stop communism wherever it may arise It was a time of wealth, good living, and patriotism, but also a period of suspicion and tension.
