HUGHSTON MUSTANG CHORALE
Who: 4th and 5th Grade Students Who Love to Sing
When: Friday mornings (7:00-7:35 a.m.)
Where: Music Room
Choir is about to begin at Hughston, and we have a great year planned! The choir is made up of 4th and 5th grade students who show excited interest in vocal performance. If your child is interested in being part of this group, please visit the link below and fill out the information: www.tinyurl.com/hughstonchoirsignup
Please be sure your child can attend all rehearsals and performances if you give permission for your child to participate. Due to our limited number of rehearsals, if students miss more than two rehearsals on a day when they are present at school, they will no longer be allowed to participate in the choir. Please visit the music section of the Hughston Specials website to find our rehearsal schedule: www.tinyurl.com/hughstonmusic
The last day permission slips will be accepted is September 23. We hope to have your child involved in this exciting experience. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Heyde at Robyn.Heyde@pisd.edu or call (469) 752-2068.
Welcome back to a brand new school year. We hope you had a fantastic summer and are ready for this year! We are looking forward to another successful school year. Our curriculum is lined up to provide the students with multiple ways to stay active and healthy during the school year. We want the students to have a positive attitude when learning and developing the critical skills to become physically literate individuals.
Please help us out by making sure the students are wearing the appropriate shoes on the days they go to PE. Take a moment to view the pictures provided to have a better understanding of what shoes can be worn for our classes. Remember our class is
about learning through movement while keeping the students engaged in moderate to vigorous physical activities. Make sure your child's shoes are comfortable and support the ankle to prevent injuries.
The students have been working very hard at learning the procedures used in PE. Our focus the first week of school was on creating a fun learning environment for all students and to learn how to cooperate with each other. We also focused on various
ways to resolve conflicts in the gym while participating in activities. We are looking forward to another successful school year and getting to know the students again this year. If you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to give us a call.
PE AT HOME
We are very excited to start a new project this year! In an effort to encourage families to exercise we are asking for some help. We have dedicated a bulletin board show how active our families are together. The month of September we are asking for you to take a picture the next time your are out exercising together and send a copy to us to post on our board. Time for us to be #FitWithFamily.
The newest craze I'm sure you've heard of is Pokemon GO. I think this is a great app and offers opportunities for families to exercise together. There can also be some great concerns with the app. If your family is using the app please encourage your children to use it safely. Inform them the phone will vibrate when close to various Pokemon and they should keep their eyes up when moving. My family loves using the app to find characters however we haven't attempted the battle part yet. They just like getting the characters. If you want to know more about the app feel free to ask.
In case you haven't heard, the word HIP is used a lot in PE. This simply stands for "Healthy In Plano". The topic will vary throughout the year and we take time during class to discuss the topics with the students. The first two weeks of school the topic is about classroom rules.
Our school follows three rules. Take care of yourself, take care of others, and take care of this place. The rules of the gym fall under these categories. In fact we ask the students to be a HERO every day:
H - have yourself prepared for class
E - exercise and participate
R - respectful to everyone and the equipment
O - offer to help others
Let's just say we have a lot of HEROs in our school!
