WELCOME TO EARLY LEARNERS!
September 9, 2022
Dear Early Learners Families,
This week, I watched our Early Learners create blueprints for their building unit of study. It's amazing to see how we challenge, collaborate, and create in our classrooms!
Thank you for your partnership and we hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Marcia Klita
REMINDERS
SHIELD Testing: If your child is participating in SHIELD testing, samples need to be dropped off in the front office vestibule by 9 am on Mondays (Tuesdays if there is no school on Monday). This weekly collection timeline applies to students participating in our morning and afternoon programs.
A Message From Nurse Nora Moskos
We would like to remind you that families are still required to report any potential COVID symptoms to their building nurse and await guidance prior to sending your child to school. If your child is presenting with COVID symptoms, we will be continuing to accept home test results via our website.
Here is the link to submit your child’s home test results (please select your child’s school from the drop down menu). If you have any questions or concerns about your ability to access home tests during the school year please reach out to Joanna Ford at jford@dps109.org.
Below is the list of COVID symptoms:
- fever
- moderate to severe persistent headache
- shortness of breath
- cough
- sore throat
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- loss of taste
- loss of smell
Even if your child is negative for COVID they need to be diarrhea, fever, and vomit-free for 24 hours without medication prior to their return to school.
Feel free to contact Nurse Nora Moskos if you have any questions at nmoskos@dps109.org.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EARLY LEARNERS?
This week we began the building unit. We read the book ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and the students took turns acting out the story with puppets. We discussed different types of buildings and what they can be made of. We learned the words architect, blueprint, and construction worker. The students constructed houses using various shapes and materials. The students have been excited to see how tall they can build their structures!
Speech with Ms. Nathanson
This week in speech group we revisited the Expanding Expressions Tool (EET). The Expanding Expressions Tool helps students describe and define objects. This week, we focused on the white bead with an eye which represents "what does it look like". We talked about how we can use color, size, and shape to describe what something looks like. The students had the opportunity to talk about many different items color and size.
