Semester 2 schedules

At this time Semester 2 schedules are not complete- classes are still being balanced. Student schedules will be complete and accessible via PowerSchool in late December. Listen to daily announcements for more information.

Schedule changes will take place the first 3 days of the semester only.

Registration for 2016-2017 School Year

As November comes to an end, registration for next school year begins. Counselors will be meeting with current juniors during US History courses the week of Nov. 30. Students will complete their course request form, get a parent signature and turn them in by Friday December 4th.

ACT profile

http://www.actprofile.org is a great tool for college and career exploration. Students who create an account can complete interest inventories, search majors, colleges and compare schools. Students who create accounts can also connect with their HHS Counselors.


This information is helpful with making senior course selections to ensure college admission requirements are met.

Financial Aid Overview

Wednesday, Nov. 18th, 6:30pm

Highland High School Kennel

A representative from the Illinois Student Assistant Commission (ISAC) will present an overview of the financial aid process. This will include information on FAFSA (the Free Application for Federal Student Aid), grants, loans and scholarships.

Seniors- College Application deadlines approaching

College applications need to be completed and submitted ASAP. Don't forget to see us to complete a transcript request after you have completed your online application.

ACT testing

The ACT is important in determining the types of colleges in which a student will have the best chance for gaining admission. It is also one component of a students college application.

The deadline for registration is January 8th to test on February 6th.

Exam information

Semester 1 final exams will take place on Dec. 18th, 21st, and 22nd. Students should contact their individual teachers to determine exemptions.


Semester Exams count for 20% of a students semester grade.

Meet Counselor last names A- G: Mrs. Sherry Thomas

Mrs. Thomas is currently in her last year of a 37 year teaching career! Her career began as a junior high teacher at St. Paul in 1979. She worked there until 1986. From 1986-1988 Mrs. Thomas worked as a K-6 PE teacher at the center schools. She also worked as a special needs coordinator at that time. From 1988-2007 Mrs. Thomas was a high school counselor. She then went to the middle school as a counselor until 2014 when she came back to finish her career at HHS. She has been involved with numerous professional development organizations. We are so lucky to have her here to share her expertise with us. She is a constant advocate for our profession and the importance of professional development and growth. Mrs. Thomas is passionate about her students and their futures. She is looking forward to spending more time with her family and grandchildren in her retirement.
