Coach Baptizes Basketball Player

What began as a simple conversation when eighth grader Brooks Thompson browsed through Coach Stephen Henry's Instagram pictures in December ended up in a life-changing decision for Brooks--and a memory his team and coach won't soon forget. Brooks followed up the casual conversation with his coach by calling and asking him to baptize him. They agreed to go after practice the following day, and with family and teammates looking on, Coach Henry baptized Brooks at Cross Point. We often talk about Mars Hill being a "special place," and we even like to use the word "family." This story illustrates beautifully how our school is so much more than a school, and we celebrate Brooks's new beginning and Coach Henry's availability and willingness to be more than a coach.

MH Students Reach Out to Those in Need

The Senior Beta and the Junior Civitan Clubs are working together to provide food and warm clothing for the homeless in our area. Drop off soft snacks (pudding, peanut butter or cheese crackers, chewy granola bars, mini cereal or cookie boxes, bottled water) or warm clothing items (gloves, head wraps, caps, sweatshirts, socks) to Mrs. Foust's room before January 23. These items will be used in the city-wide "Room in the Inn" project.

We are also collecting used backpacks for the homeless in our area. If you have any extra backpacks, please bring them to Mrs. Willingham in the gym, and she will make sure they are shared with the people who need them.
